A footwear unit's purchase desk asks a Ranipet finished-leather supplier for shades. Step through who sends what, and where a template takes over from a typed reply.
A leather order is a string of small promises: a shade, a lot, a date, a lorry receipt. When the sales desk answers the shade request by hand and the ERP sends the confirmation and dispatch note on its own, nobody has to remember to type the LR number at the end of a long day.

What the district administration says about its towns and trades, with one line from IBEF on the state.
Ranipet district was formed by bifurcating Vellore district. It was announced on 15 August 2019 and began functioning on 28 November 2019.[1]
It covers 2,234.32 sq km in six taluks: Arcot, Walajah, Kalavai, Sholinghur, Arakkonam and Nemili.[1],[2]
Its municipalities are Ranipet, Arakkonam, Walajah, Arcot, Melvisharam and Sholinghur, with 288 village panchayats and 8 town panchayats.[2]
The district is known for its leather industry, from finished leather to footwear and garments, alongside chemicals, engineering and automobile components.[2]
It has about 11,000 handlooms, most of them in the cooperative sector; Walajah, called the Silk City, is known for its silk sarees.[2],[3]
Walajah Road is one of the district's major railway stations, and road and rail link it to Tamil Nadu's cities and to Andhra Pradesh.[2]
Tamil Nadu ranks first among states by number of factories and industrial workers, and lists leather tanning among its key industries.[4]
