Ambur is one of the four taluks and four municipalities of Tirupathur district, formed by trifurcating Vellore district and declared on 28 November 2019.[1]
Ambur became a III Grade municipality on 11 April 1948, rose to Selection Grade in 2008, and covers 17.97 sq km in 36 wards, taking in the villages of Kaspa, Mel Krishnapuram and Sanankuppam.[2]
The district page calls Vaniyambadi and Ambur a leather industrial hub of southern India, where large and medium units make leather articles such as shoes and garments for export.[1]
