Arakkonam in seven lines
From the Commissionerate of Municipal Administration, the Ranipet district administration and Invest India's ODOP list; the railway and the naval air station are general background from Wikipedia.
The Arakkonam Municipality was constituted as a Third Grade municipality on 1 October 1958, became Second Grade on 1 May 1974 and First Grade on 17 April 1984; it has 36 wards over 9.06 sq km.[1]
Ranipet district was announced on 15 August 2019 and began functioning on 28 November 2019; Arakkonam heads one of its two revenue divisions, with the Arakkonam and Nemili taluks.[2]
Arakkonam is also one of the district's six municipalities, seven development blocks and six taluks.[2]
The district is known for its leather industry, beside chemicals, engineering and automobile components, and Invest India's ODOP list names leather products for Ranipet.[2],[3]
Arakkonam Junction is where the Chennai–Bangalore line, the Guntakal–Chennai line and the branch line to Chengalpattu meet, with suburban electric trains to Chennai.[4]
Southern Railway runs an engineering workshop for metal fabrication and an electric loco shed in the town.[4]
INS Rajali, a naval air station, is at Arakkonam.[4]
