Pattukkottai in nine lines
From the Commissionerate of Municipal Administration, the Thanjavur district administration and Invest India's ODOP list; the town's crops, coir cluster, fort and rail are general background from Wikipedia.
Pattukkottai became a Third Grade municipality on 1 April 1967, Second Grade in 1975, First Grade in 1984 and Selection Grade in 1998, and takes in five revenue villages.[1]
Thanjavur district counts Pattukottai, as it spells it, among its three revenue divisions with Thanjavur and Kumbakonam, and among its nine taluks with Peravurani and Orathanadu.[2]
The district calls itself the Rice Bowl of Tamil Nadu; the Cauvery is its main source of irrigation, and it lies on the state's east coast.[2]
Invest India's ODOP list names coconuts, and handicraft and handloom, for Thanjavur district.[4]
Paddy and coconut are the town's major crops, coconut groves cover the coast around it, and fishing is a major occupation.[5]

Vanaji Pandithar, a feudatory of Shahuji I, built the town's fort in 1686–87; the Thanjavur Marathas held it until 1799.[5]
Manora Fort, eight storeys and about 23 metres tall, was built in 1814–15 by Serfoji II at Sarabendraraja Pattinam on the Bay of Bengal to mark a British advance over Napoleon.[3]
Pattukkottai station is on the Chennai Egmore–Rameswaram line, and the nearest international airport is at Tiruchirappalli.[5]
