A business day in Pudukkottai

WhatsApp Business API for Pudukkottai's cashew, engineering and heritage trade

The Thondaimans ruled Pudukkottai as a princely state until it joined the Indian Union in 1948, and it became a district in 1974. Its cashew, its engineering works and its cave temples now meet customers on WhatsApp.

  1. 06:30

A cashew unit grades the morning's kernels and books a truck for the day's orders.

  2. 09:30

An engineering works confirms its job orders to a buyer's purchase desk.

  3. 13:00

A family asks a guide how to reach Sittannavasal and Kudumianmalai.

  4. 18:30

Dispatch notices go out in Tamil as the trucks leave.

For Pudukkottai's cashew units, engineering works, the guides and taxis that take visitors to Sittannavasal and Kudumianmalai, and the hosts who fill up in jallikattu season: what a working day sends on the official WhatsApp Business API, which messages need a Tamil template, and what each costs.

See it work

Thirteen centuries of Pudukkottai, then two new rules

From an 8th-century inscription to the princely state and the district, then the two dates a cashew unit, an engineering works or a lodge has to plan its messages around.

A cashew unit's buyer list was built over years, from phone calls and visiting cards. Having a number is not the same as having permission: before a Pongal price list goes out as a marketing template, the unit needs to know who agreed to receive one, and when.

Replies are different. A buyer who writes first opens a 24-hour window in which prices, photos and answers need no template, each charged at the service rate. The India guide sets out the DPDP timeline, and the 24-hour service window explains the reply rule.

DPDP consent duties apply

A festival price list may go only to buyers whose consent meets the Act, and saying no must be as easy as saying yes.

Six dates are the district's own, from its administration's history and tourism pages. The last two concern messaging: when InfiQ began charging each reply, and when the DPDP Act's consent duties begin.

Event 8 of 8: 13 May 2027 — DPDP consent duties apply (coming up). A festival price list may go only to buyers whose consent meets the Act, and saying no must be as easy as saying yes.

Market brief

Pudukkottai in seven lines

From the Pudukkottai district administration's pages, Invest India's ODOP list and IBEF's Tamil Nadu profile.

  1. 01

The district covers 4,663 sq km, bounded by the Bay of Bengal on the east, with 3 revenue divisions, 12 taluks, 13 blocks, 1 municipal corporation, 2 municipalities and 8 town panchayats.[1]

  2. 02

The Thondaimans ruled Pudukkottai with full sovereignty from the middle of the 17th century; it was amalgamated with the Indian Union on 4 March 1948 and became a separate district on 14 January 1974.[2]

  3. 03

The district history records its part in maritime trade, with a hoard of more than 500 Roman gold and silver coins found at Karukkakurichi.[2]

  4. 04

Sittannavasal lies on the Annavasal–Pudukkottai road, Kudumianmalai's cave temples about 20 km away, Narthamalai, once the seat of the Mutharaiyar chiefs, about 17 km, and Avudaiyarkoil's Athmanatha Swamy temple about 60 km.[3]

  5. 05

Jallikattu is held every year in about 25 villages of the district, Viralimalai, Thiruvappur, Alathur and Thirunallur among them, and the Department of Tourism holds a Pongal Vizha in the Tamil month of Thai.[4]

  6. 06

Invest India's One District One Product list names engineering products as Pudukkottai's primary product and cashew as its secondary one.[5]

  7. 07

Tamil Nadu ranks first among states by number of factories and industrial workers, and IBEF names Pudukkottai among the sites of new TIDEL Neo mini IT parks.[6]

Who in Pudukkottai writes to customers

Four kinds of business in the town and district, and the messages each sends most.

  • Rates and grade photos in reply
  • Order and dispatch confirmations
  • Festival price lists to opted-in buyers

Engineering works

Engineering products are the district's primary ODOP entry, in a state that leads India by its number of factories.[5],[6]

  • Job-order confirmations from the ERP
  • Dispatch notices with the invoice
  • Payment-due reminders

Heritage guides and taxis

Sittannavasal, Kudumianmalai, Narthamalai and Avudaiyarkoil draw visitors who plan their routes and timings before they set out.[3]

  • Route answers and map pins in reply
  • Trip confirmations
  • Evening-before pickup reminders

Jallikattu-season hosts and caterers

Jallikattu in Viralimalai and about two dozen other villages, and the Pongal Vizha in Thai, fill rooms and kitchens on dates the calendar fixes.[4]

  • Room and order confirmations
  • Event-day directions
  • Season notes to past guests who opted in

Questions Pudukkottai businesses ask

  1. Q1

Our cashew unit in Pudukkottai sells to shops ahead of Pongal in the month of Thai. Can we send our price list to past buyers?

Yes, to buyers who agreed to receive offers from you. A festival price list is a marketing template at ₹0.94 per delivered message. A buyer who replies with an order opens a 24-hour window, and your answers inside it cost ₹0.145 each.

  2. Q2

An engineering works near Pudukkottai sends job-order confirmations to its buyers. Can they come from our ERP?

Yes. InfiQ's developer API, included on Growth at ₹2,999 a month and an add-on on Lite, lets your ERP send an approved utility template at ₹0.19 with the order number and dispatch date, and HMAC-signed webhooks report delivery and read status back.

  3. Q3

Visitors ask our guide service how to reach Sittannavasal on the Annavasal–Pudukkottai road. Can we answer with a map pin?

Yes. The visitor wrote first, so for 24 hours your directions, a location pin and photos of the site are replies at ₹0.145 each. Every new message from the visitor restarts the window, so no template is needed while the conversation continues.

  4. Q4

Our lodge takes bookings from foreign visitors for the jallikattu at Viralimalai. What does a confirmation to their number cost?

Meta charges by the recipient's country code, so a confirmation to a foreign number is billed at InfiQ's published rate for that country, in rupees on the pricing page. Utility messages reach any country; Meta does not deliver marketing templates to US (+1) numbers.

  5. Q5

Our taxi service runs heritage trips to Kudumianmalai, Narthamalai and Avudaiyarkoil. Can we send the plan the evening before?

Yes. A trip reminder for a booking the customer made is a utility template at ₹0.19, with the pickup time, the driver's name and the route. If the customer replies to change a stop, your answers for the next 24 hours are replies at ₹0.145.

  6. Q6

Customers in Pudukkottai write to our shop in Tamil. Can our templates be approved in Tamil?

Yes. Tamil (ta) is a Meta template language, and each template is approved once per language, so submit the Tamil version first and an English one for buyers' offices. Inside the 24-hour window your staff can reply in any language with no template.
