WhatsApp Business API for Paradip's port agents, transporters and fish traders

Paradip has been a major port since April 1966, and a refinery, fertiliser plants and oil terminals have grown up behind it. Every lorry that loads dry bulk or containers there needs a slot, a gate and a time, and that is a message.

Port logistics

Agents and transporters working the dry bulk and containers of Odisha's only major port, and suppliers to the plants behind it.

Trade 2

Marine catch

Jagatsinghpur's second ODOP product, landed on the coast and sold to hotels, shops and buyers inland.

For Paradip Port's clearing, forwarding and shipping agents, the transporters who move its cargo, suppliers to the refinery and fertiliser plants, and Jagatsinghpur's marine-fish traders: how a loading-slot notice travels on the WhatsApp Business API, which templates to approve in Hindi and English, and what each costs.

See it work

One loading-slot notice, from the yard system to the driver

A clearing agent or transporter at Paradip tells dozens of drivers a day where and when to load. Watch one notice descend through each layer it passes, and the driver's answer come back.

Each slot notice is a utility template: it is about cargo the driver is already carrying for you and sells nothing. What the driver writes back starts a conversation, so the desk's answers about the queue, the documents or the weighbridge are replies, typed without a template.

The 24-hour service window explains what the driver's reply opens.

The path of a loading-slot notice

PayloadLoading-slot notice

Enters at the top, travels down through 6 layers

An illustrative notice for a lorry loading dry bulk or a container at a Paradip berth. No real slot, vehicle or rate is shown; each layer is what InfiQ and Meta actually do with an approved utility template.

Hop 6 of 6: the payload is in layer 6, The driver's reply. The driver answers 'reached the gate'. That opens a 24-hour window, and the desk can reply freely from the shared inbox.

Paradip in eight lines

From the Paradip Port Authority, the Jagatsinghpur district website, Invest India's ODOP list and IBEF's Odisha profile.

Jawaharlal Nehru laid the port's foundation stone on 3 January 1962; the Government of India took over its management from Odisha on 1 June 1965; INS Investigator made the maiden berthing and the port was declared open on 12 March 1966.[1]

Paradip was declared the Eighth Major Port of India on 18 April 1966, and now runs as an autonomous body under the Major Port Authority Act, 2021. The port calls Biju Patnaik, then Chief Minister of Odisha, its founder father.[1]

It is the only major port in Odisha, 210 nautical miles south of Kolkata and 260 north of Visakhapatnam, handling dry bulk, liquid bulk and containers for industries in Odisha, Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh.[2]

Jagatsinghpur district was formed on 1 April 1993; it covers 1,759 sq km with the Bay of Bengal to its east, and has 8 blocks, 8 tahasils and 2 municipalities.[3]

The district site lists IOC's 15 MMTPA refinery cum petrochemical complex, Paradeep Phosphates, an IFFCO fertilizer plant, Paradeep Plastic Park, a pellet plant, oil marketing terminals of IOC, BPCL and HPCL, and an edible oil plant among Paradip's industries.[4]

The district's economy still depends on agriculture, with paddy, sugarcane, turmeric, cotton and jute as key crops; Indian Railways has taken up an 82 km Paradeep–Haridaspur broad gauge line, and a greenfield road from Bhubaneswar is planned.[4]

Invest India's ODOP list names rice as Jagatsinghpur's primary product and marine products as its secondary one.[5]

IBEF records the port's cargo handling capacity rising from 71 million tonnes in 2015 to 150 million tonnes by 2025, and a shipbuilding and repair hub planned near Paradip.[6]

Who in Paradip sends what

Four kinds of business that live on the port, the plants and the coast.

Clearing, forwarding and shipping agents

The port handles dry bulk, liquid bulk and containers; agents keep exporters, importers and crews informed through each shipment.[2]

  • Shipment status notes
  • Document reminders
  • Replies to importers' questions

Transporters and lorry owners

Dry bulk and containers move between the port and its hinterland in Odisha, Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh, and every load needs a slot, a gate and a time. Fuel, fertiliser and other hazardous loads stay off WhatsApp, whose policy prohibits hazardous goods and materials.[2],[4]

  • Loading-slot notices
  • Gate and weighbridge replies
  • Trip and payment confirmations

Suppliers and contractors to the plants

The refinery, fertiliser plants and terminals listed by the district buy spares, services and labour from firms around the town.[4]

  • Delivery notes and gate passes
  • Invoice and payment notices
  • Login codes for a supplier portal

Marine-fish traders

Marine products are Jagatsinghpur's second ODOP entry, sold from the coast to hotels, shops and buyers inland.[5]

  • Today's catch in reply
  • Order and delivery notes
  • Offers to opted-in buyers

Language

Hindi for the drivers, English for the agents, Odia in the chat

Drivers bringing cargo from Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh read Hindi, and shipping lines and plant offices work in English. Odia, the language of most customers in the district, is not a Meta template language.

Send templates in Hindi or English, and reply in Odia inside the 24-hour window after a customer writes; free-form replies need no approval. InfiQ's own support works in English and Hindi.

Questions Paradip businesses ask

Our clearing agency at Paradip Port sends lorry drivers their loading slot and gate. Is that a utility template?+
Yes. A notice about cargo the driver is already carrying for you, with the slot, gate and vehicle and no offer, is a utility template at ₹0.19. Your yard system can send it through InfiQ's developer API, included on Growth and an add-on on Lite.
Drivers from Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh bring cargo to Paradip for us. Which language should their notices be in?+
Hindi (hi) suits most of them, with an English version for agents and offices; Meta reviews each language separately, and both cost the same. When a driver writes back, your desk can reply in any language for 24 hours without a template.
We supply spares and services to the refinery and fertiliser plants at Paradip. Can delivery notes and gate passes go out automatically?+
Yes. A delivery note or gate pass for an order already placed is a utility template at ₹0.19, sent from your system over InfiQ's API, with signed webhooks reporting delivery. A login code for your supplier portal is an authentication template at ₹0.14.
Our fish trading firm on the Paradip coast wants to send the day's catch list to hotels every morning. Is that marketing?+
Usually, yes. An unrequested list of what is for sale is a marketing template at ₹0.94, for hotels that agreed to receive offers. If a hotel's buyer asks first, your list is a reply at ₹0.145 inside the 24-hour window.
Most of our customers in Jagatsinghpur district write to us in Odia. Can our templates be in Odia?+
No. Odia is not one of Meta's template languages, so approve templates in Hindi or English. Inside the 24-hour window after a customer writes, your staff can reply in Odia freely, with no template.
Our agency gives crew changing at Paradip their hotel and transport details. Do messages to foreign crew numbers cost more?+
They can. Meta charges by the recipient's country code, so a message to a crew member's foreign number is billed at that market's rate, which InfiQ publishes in rupees on its [pricing page](/pricing). Messages to Indian numbers stay at the India rate.
