Jatani in seven lines

From NISER's own site, the Khordha district administration and Invest India's ODOP list; the station's history, the town's colleges and its festival are general background from Wikipedia.

NISER, an institute of the Department of Atomic Energy, gives its address as At/PO Jatni, Dist Khurda, Odisha 752050.[1]

Khurda Road Junction, an East Coast Railway station, is at Jatani; its lines run to Puri, to Visakhapatnam on the Howrah–Chennai main line, and towards Bolangir, the last still under construction.[4]

The Khurda Road–Puri section opened to traffic on 1 February 1897; Khurda Road is one of the three divisions of East Coast Railway, created in April 2003 out of South Eastern Railway.[4]

Khordha district places the Jatni block in its lateritic sub-region, with Banpur, Begunia, Bhubaneswar, Bolagarh, Khordha and Tangi.[2]

NISER and IIT Bhubaneswar are listed among the town's public higher-education institutes, with private engineering colleges including Centurion University, Konark Institute of Science and Technology and Orissa Engineering College.[5]

Jatani is known for its Ganesh Chaturthi, when Lord Ganesh is worshipped for 11 days.[5]

A junction town with institutes at its edge

Most people who come to Jatani come by train, and many come for the institutes: an interview, an admission, a conference, a parent's visit. Each of those trips raises the same questions before it starts, where to stay, how far the campus is from Khurda Road, whether a car can meet the morning train.
