Nabadwip (নবদ্বীপ), the new island, and its calendar
Navadwip has been a royal capital, a university town without walls and a pilgrimage centre, and the last of these sets its business year. Bookings arrive in waves before the Rash and Gaura Purnima, and the guests who make them are hours away, deciding by phone.
That makes the town's WhatsApp traffic unusually predictable. The questions come first and get free replies; the confirmations and reminders follow as templates that can be approved months in advance; and the next festival is worth mentioning only to guests who said they want to hear. An idol workshop's year runs the same way, with the committee that ordered a goddess waiting for photos.
