Kadayanallur in seven lines
From the Commissionerate of Municipal Administration, the Tenkasi district administration and Invest India's ODOP list; the town's name, station and links abroad are general background from Wikipedia.
Kadayanallur is a First Grade municipal town at the foot of the Western Ghats, about 16 km north of Tenkasi and 47 km south of Rajapalayam, with National Highway 208 (Quilon–Thirumangalam) running through it.[2]
It became a Third Grade municipality from the Kadayanallur Panchayat Board in 1966, Grade II in 1987 and Grade I in 2008; the Karuppanathi water scheme began in 1973 and the Tamirabarani scheme in 1999.[2]
The municipality lists handloom cloth, matches, fibre and mud-pots among the town's products.[2]
Tenkasi district was formed in 2019 by G.O. No. 427 of 12 November 2019 from Tirunelveli district; it borders Kerala to the west and calls itself the Land of Waterfalls.[3]
Invest India's ODOP list names the coir pith block for Tenkasi district.[4]
The name comes from Kadaikaaleeswara, the deity of the Kadayaleeswarar kovil; Kadayanallur station is served by the Pothigai and Silambu Express, and paddy and coconut fields surround the town.[5]
The town is known for its textiles and has developed a gold and jewellery trade; many of its people work elsewhere in India and in the Gulf, Singapore and Malaysia.[5]
