Tenkasi in nine lines
From the Commissionerate of Municipal Administration, the Tenkasi district administration and Invest India's ODOP list; the temple's date, the Pandyas and the trains are general background from Wikipedia.
Tenkasi became a municipality in 1965 and is now Selection Grade; it lies about 54 km north-west of Tirunelveli on the Quilon–Tirunelveli highway, with its railway station in the heart of the town.[1]
Tenkasi district was formed in 2019 from Tirunelveli district; Virudhunagar lies to its north, Thoothukudi to the east, Tirunelveli to the south and Kerala to the west.[2]
The Chittar and Anumanadhi rivers and the Gundar, Adavinayinar, Karupanadhi and Ramanadhi dams water its farms, and agriculture is the district's main livelihood.[2]
Courtallam, in the Western Ghats, is called the spa of South India; its falls include Peraruvi, the main falls, about 60 m high, and Aintharuvi, the five falls.[3]
The Kutraleeshwarar temple's Chitra Sabha is one of the five sabhas of Nataraja, and the district also lists the Kasi Viswanathar and Sankarankoil temples and the Pottalpudur darga.[2]
Parakirama Pandian built the Kasi Viswanathar temple in 1467 beside the Seevalaperi pond; Tenkasi was the last capital of the Pandyas, and its name means the Kasi of the south.[5]
Tenkasi Junction has daily trains to Chennai, Madurai, Kollam, Tirunelveli, Punalur and Palakkad, and the Western Ghats surround the town on three sides.[5]
