Looms and temple roads
Bagalkot's two outward-facing trades could hardly be more different. An Ilkal saree trader sells to shopkeepers who know the cloth and order by colour; a guest house sells a bed to a family who may never come back. Yet both conversations start the same way, with the customer writing first.
That makes most of their WhatsApp traffic replies, which need no template. The messages that need planning are few: the dispatch receipt after a parcel is booked, the weaver's payment slip at the end of the week, the reminder the day before a visit. Each is a utility template, approved once per language, and sent only to people who agreed to receive it.
The district's history adds a third thread. The Upper Krishna Project took 42 years and fully submerged 136 villages in its backwaters, and the Almatti dam on the Krishna now sits on the district's tourism list beside the temple towns: one more stop for the visitors who write to a guest house or taxi desk first.
