WhatsApp Business API for Indian travel and shipping firms working with Athens

An Indian group in Athens generates a stream of messages: a ticket that will not scan, a coach running late, a hotel asking about check-in. The work is getting each one to the person in India who can fix it.

Route an Athens tour group's messages to the right desk

An Indian tour operator has a group of travellers in Athens. Messages come from the travellers, their hotel, the ground handler and families at home, all to one WhatsApp number. Switch strategies and watch where each lands.

A tour group's day in Athens is a run of small problems, each owned by a different person in your company. When every message lands with whoever looks first, the hotel waits behind a ticket query and the coach delay reaches the traveller-care desk.

On InfiQ the shared team inbox carries the rules: skills, transfers and private notes, so a thread that moves from the hotel desk to ground operations keeps its history.

Athens, its visitors and its port

Enterprise Greece, the Piraeus Port Authority and India's Ministry of External Affairs describe the city's two trades and the Indian community around them.

Greece received 40.7 million international visitors and €21.6 billion in tourism receipts in 2024, according to Enterprise Greece.[1]

Between 2017 and 2024, 11 new international hotel chains entered Attica, bringing the region to 23 brands operating 40 labels.[1]

The Grand Hyatt Athens, with 548 rooms, was Europe's largest hotel deal by room count in 2024.[1]

Citing ACI Europe, the same report says Athens rose from 20th to 10th place for direct connectivity among airports handling 25 to 40 million passengers.[1]

Greek ports saw 5,490 cruise ship arrivals and 7.9 million cruise passengers in 2024.[1]

The Piraeus Port Authority calls Piraeus the natural port of Athens and Greece's main gateway, and puts its economic impact at 1.56% of national GDP in 2022.[2]

India's Ministry of External Affairs counts 11,491 overseas Indians in Greece, 11,333 of them NRIs, as of January 2026.[3]

Who in India writes to Athens

The city's two trades decide most of the senders; the Indian community adds a third.

Outbound tour operators

  • Itinerary and entry-ticket delivery
  • Coach and ferry change alerts
  • Arrival notes for families at home

Event and incentive planners

International hotel brands have spread across Attica, giving planners more branded properties to book for groups.[1]

  • Room-list and check-in coordination
  • Venue and transfer confirmations
  • Guest schedule reminders

Ship-management and crewing firms

Piraeus is Greece's main gateway port, and companies there coordinate crews, joinings and documents with agencies abroad.[2]

  • Joining instructions for seafarers
  • Document and certificate requests
  • Crew-change confirmations to managers

NRI banks and services

More than 11,000 Indians in Greece keep accounts, policies and family ties at home.[3]

Greek for the hotel, Hindi or English for the group

Meta approves each language version separately. An Athens programme usually writes to two audiences in two different languages.

Ask each traveller for a preferred language when they book, and each Greek supplier when they first write. Replies inside the 24-hour window can be in any language your agents write; InfiQ's own support team works in English and Hindi.

Questions Athens businesses ask

Our group from Ahmedabad lands at Athens airport in the afternoon. How do we send the welcome message at the right moment?
Trigger it from your booking or flight-status system rather than a fixed clock: when the flight is marked landed, your system calls InfiQ's API and the approved welcome template goes out with the coach and hotel details. To travellers' +91 numbers it costs the India utility rate, ₹0.19.
A hotel in Plaka writes to our operations desk about early check-in for the group. Which rate does that conversation use?
Messages are charged by the number you send to. The hotel wrote first, so your replies to its +30 number inside the 24-hour window are service messages at ₹1.86. Notes you then send to travellers' +91 numbers about their rooms are charged at India rates.
Should our messages to Athens hotels and ground handlers be in Greek or English?
Ask each supplier when they first write and store the answer. Greek, code el, is on Meta's template list for suppliers who prefer it; English, code en, for those who work in it. Free-text replies inside the 24-hour window can follow whichever language the supplier writes in.
Our Mumbai crewing agency places officers with ship managers in Piraeus. Can joining instructions go on WhatsApp?
Yes, once the seafarer and the manager have opted in. Joining instructions to an officer's +91 number are utility templates at the India rate, ₹0.19; confirmations to the manager's +30 number cost ₹1.86. Keep certificates as document attachments sent inside an open window or with an approved template.
An Athens travel agency gave us its card at a trade show. Can we send it our India packages on WhatsApp?
Ask first. Meta requires the recipient to have agreed to WhatsApp messages from you before any template, and Greek law sets its own conditions for marketing by electronic communication, which the Greece guide explains. A QR code that opens a chat lets the agency opt in on the spot.
Greece changes its clocks on 25 October. When does a 09:00 Athens briefing land in India after that?
At 12:30 IST from 25 October 2026 until 28 March 2027, while Athens is on Eastern European Time, two hours ahead of UTC. In summer the same 09:00 briefing is 11:30 IST. Schedule by Athens time and the platform keeps up with the change.
Our Indian tour company set up a Greek subsidiary in Athens for ground handling. Which one should hold the WhatsApp account?
InfiQ serves India-based businesses: it invoices in rupees with GST and keeps customer data in India, so the Indian company is the natural account holder and can message Greek numbers at the regional rate. If the account must belong to the subsidiary based in Athens, talk to sales about whether InfiQ fits.
