WhatsApp Business API(WABA)

Core concepts

Definition
A programmatic interface from Meta that lets businesses send and receive WhatsApp messages at scale through software instead of a phone.

What WhatsApp Business API means

The WhatsApp Business API is the interface Meta provides for medium and large businesses to integrate WhatsApp messaging into their own systems. Unlike the consumer WhatsApp app or the small-business WhatsApp Business App, the API has no chat screen of its own — messages flow through software such as a CPaaS platform, a CRM or a custom backend.

With the API a business can send notifications (order updates, OTPs, reminders) using pre-approved message templates, run a shared team inbox with multiple agents on one number, build chatbots and automations, and receive inbound messages via webhooks. The account itself is a WhatsApp Business Account (WABA), which can hold one or more phone numbers.

Businesses do not connect to the API directly with Meta in most cases; they go through a Business Solution Provider (BSP) or Meta Business Partner. InfiQ is an official Meta Business Partner that provisions API access, handles template approval and adds broadcasts, chatbots, a shared inbox and developer APIs on top.
