Tiruvannamalai in eight lines

The district was formed on 30 September 1989 from the erstwhile North Arcot district. It covers 6,188 sq km in three revenue divisions, Tiruvannamalai, Arni and Cheyyar, with 12 taluks and 18 development blocks.[1],[2]
The district administration calls it the fourth largest district in Tamil Nadu, bordered by Vellore, Kanchipuram, Villupuram, Dharmapuri and Krishnagiri.[1],[2]
Tiruvannamalai and Arunachala both denote the holy fire hill. The Sangam-era Ahananuru mentions Karthigai Deepam, the light lit on the Annamalaiyar hill.[4]
