Savarkundla is a twin town formed when Savar and Kundla merged; the Navli river, which flows south to north in the monsoon, divides it, with Kundla on the western bank and Savar on the eastern.[10]
It sits on the southern Saurashtra plateau, its civic body is the Savarkundla Nagarpalika, and it is known for its weighing scale industry, mechanical and, increasingly, electronic.[10]
Savarkundla is one of Amreli district's 12 talukas, with a mamlatdar's office on the 02845 dialling code.[3]
The district site lists 11 blocks, 615 villages and 10 municipalities, calls Amreli 'a sanctuary of Gir lions', and names Pipavav Port at Rajula and Ambardi Safari Park at Dhari among its places.[1]
Damajirao Gaikwad came to Amreli in 1730; Amreli was a prant of Vadodara state until 1949, and became part of Gujarat on 1 May 1960.[2]
The ODOP list names peanut-based products and beadwork as Amreli district's products.[4]
IBEF lists engineering, agro and food processing, and ports among Gujarat's key industries.[5]
