Sangareddy district was bifurcated from Medak under orders dated 11 October 2016; it covers 4,464.87 sq km and had 15,27,628 residents at the 2011 Census.[2]
It now lists four revenue divisions, 28 mandals, 11 municipalities and 647 villages.[1]
The town, once Sangareddy peta, is named after Sanga, son of Rani Shankaramba, ruler of Medak in the Nizam period.[1]
Three large public sector units operate near Sangareddy: BHEL, BDL, where the Prithvi missile was produced, and the Ordnance Factory Medak, which makes Sarath tanks.[2],[3]
The district lists an MRF factory at Sadashivpet, a Mahindra factory at Zaheerabad and Aurobindo Pharma in Patancheru mandal.[3]
NH-65 passes through the town; HITEC City is about 35 km away, Secunderabad about 50 km and the Hyderabad airport 70 km.[2]
