Vikarabad district was formed on 11 October 2016 from 18 mandals of the former Rangareddy and Mahabubnagar districts.[1]
It covers 3,386 sq km and had 9,27,140 residents at the 2011 Census. Its page lists two revenue divisions, Vikarabad and Tandur.[1]
Tandur is the district's industrial hub: a main producer and distributor of blue and yellow limestone, and known for red gram.[1]
Stone mines, cement factories and toor dal mills in and around Tandur provide employment there.[1]
The Ananthagiri Hills are a major tourist spot and the origin of the Musi, which flows through Hyderabad; the Anantha Padmanabha Swamy temple there draws many visitors.[1]
