WhatsApp Business API for Indian suppliers to San Luis Potosí's plants

BMW, General Motors and Cummins all build in San Luis Potosí, and BMW's plant adds fully electric models from 2027. An Indian supplier's WhatsApp to the city splits in two: updates about orders, and news about what you could sell next.

For India-based auto-component, engine-part and IT suppliers selling to plants in San Luis Potosí: which messages are utility and which are marketing, why the difference decides cost and delivery, when to send on central Mexico's clock, and what each message costs in rupees.

Two messages for the same San Luis Potosí buyer

A purchasing manager at a plant supplier gets an update about the order you shipped and, separately, news of a part you want to sell. Compare the two templates row by row.

In a plant town most of what a supplier sends is the left column: dispatch, delay, delivery, a certificate ready to download. Those are utility templates, and your ERP can send them through InfiQ's developer API without anyone in India watching the clock.

The right column is where suppliers get into trouble. A shipping update with a line about your new product is no longer a shipping update, and Meta may approve or reclassify it as marketing. Write two templates, ask for two opt-ins, and the left column stays cheap and reliable.

Keep them apart. The update rides on your systems at the utility rate; the announcement waits for the buyer's yes to offers and never goes to a US number.

Illustrative templates for an Indian parts supplier. Both go to the same +52 number; Meta approves each under its own category, and the category decides the price and who may receive it.

The plants of San Luis Potosí, and India's part in the supply chain

From BMW, the US trade guide and India's Embassy in Mexico, read on 20 October 2026.

The US trade guide lists General Motors, BMW and Cummins among vehicle and engine makers in San Luis Potosí.[2]

BMW Group Plant San Luis Potosí opened in 2019 with USD 2 billion of investment, employs about 3,700 people and builds the 3 Series, the 2 Series Coupé and the M2.[1]

From 2027 the plant will also build fully electric models, and a new high-voltage battery assembly centre makes production of the Neue Klasse there possible.[1]

Mexico exported about USD 104.8 billion of light vehicles and about USD 106 billion of auto parts in 2024, the trade guide reports.[2]

Automotive and auto components are among the three strongest sectors for Indian investment in Mexico; Motherson, Bharat Forge and Sundaram Fasteners all produce there.[3]

Gandhi statues and busts stand in several Mexican cities, San Luis Potosí among them, the Embassy of India notes.[4]

Industries

Indian suppliers with a San Luis Potosí buyer

Four kinds of Indian business with a reason to message a purchasing office or a receiving dock in the city.

  1. 01

    Engine and powertrain parts

With Cummins building engines in the state, Indian makers of castings, forgings and machined parts write to its supply chain.[2]

On WhatsApp: Dispatch and ETA updates · Material-certificate-ready notices · Delay alerts

  2. 02

    Body, interior and fasteners

Indian tier-one groups already make harnesses, mirrors and fasteners in Mexico, often as suppliers to the big carmakers.[3]

On WhatsApp: Advance shipping notices · Engineering-change confirmations · Quality-hold alerts

  3. 03

    Suppliers to the electric line

BMW's electric models from 2027 bring new parts lists, and suppliers who want to be on them start with announcements to buyers who opted in.[1]

On WhatsApp: Sample-ready notices · Product announcements to opted-in buyers · Visit scheduling

  4. 04

    IT and engineering services

Indian IT firms run delivery centres in Mexico for North American clients and support plant systems from India overnight.[3]

On WhatsApp: Incident alerts · Maintenance-window notices · Ticket updates

Central Mexico time, from an Indian desk

San Luis Potosí keeps UTC-6 all year. Mexico abolished daylight saving in 2022 outside the US border areas, so the gap with India is a fixed eleven and a half hours: a 07:00 shift start in San Luis Potosí is 18:30 in Pune or Chennai, and the city's afternoon is the Indian small hours.

That favours automation. Dispatch and delivery updates should leave when your ERP knows, whatever the hour in India; replies from buyers land in the shared team inbox for the morning shift. Announcements are the only messages worth timing by hand, for the buyer's working morning.

Mexico's 2025 privacy law and PROFECO's REPEP list for promotions are covered once in the Mexico guide.

Spanish for the plant, English where the buyer asks

Meta approves each language version of a template separately.

Store each contact's choice with the number. Replies inside the 24-hour service window need no template, so your agents can answer in the language the buyer wrote in.

The tools behind each column of the comparison.

  1. Developer API and webhooks

The left column: your ERP sends each dispatch and delivery update to a San Luis Potosí buyer as the status changes, with retries that never double-send.

  2. Template manager and library

Keep the utility and marketing versions as separate templates in es_MX and English, and track how Meta categorises each.

  3. Consent records and opt-out enforcement

The right column: each buyer's opt-in to offers is recorded with its source and time, apart from the opt-in to updates.

  4. Guided onboarding

Meta business verification first; once it clears, the number is usually live in about two hours, ready for the first es_MX template.

Questions San Luis Potosí businesses ask

We ship pistons to an engine-parts supplier in San Luis Potosí. Can our dispatch template also mention our new product line?
Keep it out. A dispatch update is a utility template at ₹0.7471; add a sales line and Meta may treat the whole template as marketing, at ₹3.49 and only for buyers who opted in to offers. Send the product news as its own marketing template.
BMW's San Luis Potosí plant adds electric models from 2027. Can we tell its suppliers about our battery-component range on WhatsApp?
Only buyers who opted in to offers from you, and only on a Mexican number: it is a marketing template at ₹3.49. Meta does not deliver marketing templates to US numbers, so a contact who gave you only a +1 number has to hear about it another way.
When should a dispatch update leave our Pune plant to reach a San Luis Potosí receiving dock before its 07:00 shift?
Send it by 18:30 IST. The city keeps UTC-6 all year, eleven and a half hours behind India, so the time does not change with the seasons. A dispatch update is utility, so letting your ERP send it the moment the truck leaves is usually better still.
Some managers at the General Motors and Cummins suppliers in San Luis Potosí use US +1 numbers. What changes for them?
Order updates, login codes and service replies still reach them, charged on the North America line of the rate card. Marketing templates do not: Meta does not currently deliver them to WhatsApp users with US numbers.
Should templates for purchasing teams in San Luis Potosí be in Spanish or in English?
Ask each buyer. Meta accepts Spanish (Mexico), es_MX, and English, en, as separate versions of the same template. Receiving docks and accounts may want Spanish while engineers choose English; storing the choice at opt-in sends each update in the right one.
Our warehouse in San Luis Potosí holds stock for plants across central Mexico. Can it hold the InfiQ account?
InfiQ serves India-based businesses: it bills in rupees with GST and keeps customer data in India, so the Indian company is the natural account holder and can message +52 numbers at Mexico's rate. If the account must belong to the business based in San Luis Potosí, talk to sales about whether InfiQ fits.
