An automobile town that kept its name
The district still lists Ford first among Maraimalai Nagar's automobile units, and still calls the town the Detroit of Chengalpattu. Ford stopped making cars in India after its September 2021 announcement, and the plant here closed. Hyundai and Rane TRW remain on the district's list, and automobile products remain Chengalpattu's ODOP entry.
