Two car plants, a freight hub and five clusters

Porsche decided in 1999 to build a Cayenne assembly plant in Leipzig, and BMW chose the city for a plant two years later; their suppliers are linked to the plants just in time and just in sequence.[2]
The 3 millionth BMW built in Leipzig rolled off the line in 2021, when battery-module production began; a second battery-module line followed in 2022.[2]
