Market brief
From the Raigad district administration's pages, Invest India's ODOP list and IBEF's Maharashtra profile; the town's railway, road, industries and attractions are general background from Wikipedia.
Raigad district, previously known as Kolaba, is in the Konkan division, with the Arabian Sea along its west and most of its hills in the Sahyadri.[1]
The district names the Ashtavinayak temples among its sites, and its tourist pages list the Varadvinayak temple at Mahad, one of the eight, and Matheran, a hill station at about 800 m.[1],[2]
Invest India's ODOP list names marine produce and iron and steel for Raigad.[3]
Khopoli is in Khalapur taluka at the base of the Sahyadri, with the Patalganga flowing through it; under the Raj it was Campoolie, at the foot of the Bhor ghat.[5]
The Great Indian Peninsular Railway reached Khopoli in 1856. It is now on the Central Railway suburban line, about 114 km from CSMT, by a single line from Karjat.[5]
The Tatas built a hydroelectric power station here; steel, chemical, food and pulp industries work in the town, and the PAPCO paper mill ran from 1949 to 1990.[5]
The Mumbai–Pune Expressway passes through the town, as did the old National Highway 4.[5]
Its attractions include a Shiva temple and reservoir built by Nana Phadnavis, the Zenith waterfall and the Imagica theme park, and it is nicknamed the City of Waterfalls.[5]
