WhatsApp Business API for Jaisalmer's fort hotels, desert camps and stone yards

Rawal Jaisal built a mud fort here in 1156 and named it after himself. Sonar Qila is still lived in, with shops, hotels and havelis inside its walls, and their guests plan the desert long before they reach it.

For the hotels and guesthouses inside Sonar Qila, the camps at the Sam and Khuri dunes, Jaisalmer's safari and taxi operators and the yellow-stone yards behind the district's ODOP entry: how one booking message passes every rule on its way to a guest's phone, which languages it can use, and what it costs in rupees.

One Sam dunes camp booking, layer by layer

A family from Kolkata has booked two tents at a camp near Sam for the Desert Festival. Drop the camp's confirmation through each layer it passes before it reaches their phone.

Only two layers cost money, and only once each: the template the camp sends and the replies it gives. Everything above them is set up before the season, so the booking desk at the height of the Desert Festival only fills in names, dates and a pickup time.

Jaisalmer in eight lines

From Rajasthan Tourism's Jaisalmer guide, Invest India's ODOP list and IBEF's Rajasthan profile.

Rajasthan Tourism dates the town to the 12th century: in 1156 Rawal Jaisal, passed over for the throne of Lodurva, built a mud fort, named it Jaisalmer after himself and declared it his capital.[1]

Jaisalmer Fort, Sonar Qila, is described as a world heritage site and, unlike most Indian forts, houses shops, hotels and ancient havelis; it is the fort of Satyajit Ray's Feluda story and film Sonar Kela.[1]

The Jain temples inside the fort, dedicated to Rikhabdevji and Shambhavdevji, date from the 12th and 15th centuries and are carved from yellow sandstone in the Dilwara style.[1]

Patwon Ki Haveli rises five storeys; Nathmal Ji Ki Haveli, built in the 19th century by two architect brothers, has tuskers carved out of yellow sandstone; Salim Singh Ki Haveli dates from the first half of the 18th century.[1]

Camel and camel-cart safaris run at the Sam and Khuri dunes, and the Department of Tourism holds the Desert Festival around January–February with puppeteers, camel races, camel polo and folk dances.[1]

Kuldhara, a village left by its people in the 1800s, lies about 18 km away and the Akal Wood Fossil Park about 17 km; Jodhpur is 286 km by road and Bikaner 330 km.[1]

The civil airport has direct flights from Jaipur, Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore and Surat, and a few direct trains run between Jaisalmer and Delhi.[1]

Invest India's ODOP list names yellow stone products for Jaisalmer district, and IBEF counts Jaisalmer among Rajasthan's top tourist attractions.[2],[3]

Hindi and English, and the languages guests write in

IBEF lists Hindi, Marwari and English among Rajasthan's languages. Marwari is not one of Meta's template languages; these are.

Each language is a separate template under the same name, reviewed by Meta when it is created. Replies need no template, so a camp's staff answer in Marwari, Hindi or any language a guest writes in. InfiQ's own support works in English and Hindi.

Questions Jaisalmer businesses ask

Our guesthouse is inside Sonar Qila and guests keep asking which gate to use and where the taxi stops. Can we answer all of that on WhatsApp?
Yes. When a guest writes, every answer for the next 24 hours is a reply at ₹0.145, in any language and with no template: the gate, the walking route through the fort and a photo of the door. If you send the route unasked on the morning of arrival, use a utility check-in template at ₹0.19.
Families book our camp at the Sam dunes months before the Desert Festival. Can a reminder go out the week before they arrive?
Yes. A reminder about a booking the family made is a utility template at ₹0.19, with the tent, the dates and the pickup point as variables. An offer for an extra night or a camel-cart ride they did not ask about is a marketing template at ₹0.94, for guests who opted in.
Many guests at our Jaisalmer hotel write in Bengali and ask about the Sonar Kela fort. Can our booking templates be in Bengali?
Yes. Bengali (bn) is on Meta's template list. Keep one template name with Bengali, Hindi and English versions; each is reviewed when you create it. Your staff can answer in Bengali in any case, because replies need no template.
Our yard cuts Jaisalmer yellow stone for builders in other states. Can dispatch photos and the truck number go out on WhatsApp?
Yes. A dispatch note for an order the builder placed is a utility template at ₹0.19, with the invoice in its header and the truck number and slab count as variables. Photos of the cut stone sent while the buyer is asking questions are replies at ₹0.145.
Our jeep safari to Kuldhara and the Akal fossil park leaves from Jaisalmer early. What does the pickup message the night before cost?
A pickup reminder for a safari the guest booked is a utility template at ₹0.19 per delivered message, with the time, the driver's name and the vehicle number as variables. If the guest replies to move the time, your answers are replies at ₹0.145.
A guest from abroad booked our camel safari at the Khuri dunes. Is the confirmation charged at the India rate?
No. Meta charges by the recipient's country calling code, so a guest on a foreign number is charged at that market's rate, which InfiQ publishes in rupees. A guest on an Indian number pays the India rate wherever they live, and your invoice is in rupees either way.
