WhatsApp Business API for Indian exporters shipping to Alexandria

An Egyptian importer requests an ACID for every shipment, and the number reaches the Indian exporter by email. From there to the vessel's arrival, the updates an Alexandria buyer waits for can travel on WhatsApp.

For Indian exporters of yarn, engineering goods and buffalo meat with importers in Alexandria, and Indian buyers of Egyptian goods: what to clear before the first WhatsApp shipment notice, which Arabic to write in, when Egypt's clock changes and what each +20 message costs in rupees.

See it work

Clear these before the first Alexandria shipment notice

A container of cotton yarn is booked for an importer in Alexandria. Tick through what an Indian exporter sets up once, so every later notice goes out on its own.

Nafeza, Egypt's trade portal, describes the importer's side: the Egyptian importer logs in, enters the foreign exporter's data and the shipment details, and requests the ACID, which the system then emails to both the importer and the exporter. That number is the thread every later message hangs on.

On InfiQ your export system can send each approved template through the developer API as the shipment moves, from booking to arrival at Alexandria, while the importer's questions land in the shared team inbox.

Alexandria and India, from the embassy in Cairo

India's embassy in Cairo keeps the corridor's figures. These are the ones that tell an exporter who is likely to be on the other end.

India and Egypt raised their relations to a Strategic Partnership during the Prime Minister's state visit in June 2023.[1]

Bilateral trade was US$6.5 billion in FY 2025-26. India's exports include petroleum products, engineering goods, chemicals, cotton yarn, buffalo meat and pharmaceuticals; Egypt's include petroleum products, inorganic chemicals and citrus fruits.[1]

More than 700 Indian companies are registered in Egypt, and about 70 Indian factories are active, adding over US$1 billion a year to Egyptian exports and employing about 40,000 Egyptians directly and indirectly.[2]

The embassy's list of Indian investments includes Alexandria Carbon Black, Alexandria Textile and Alex Apparel; the largest named is TCI Sanmar, at US$1.6 billion in chemicals.[2]

In the city itself, the embassy records a completed telemedicine project at Alexandria University and a bronze bust of Mahatma Gandhi at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina.[1]

For each shipment, the Egyptian importer requests an ACID on the Nafeza portal, entering the foreign exporter's details, and the system emails the number to both.[4]

Egypt keeps summer time from the last Friday of April to the end of the last Thursday of October, one hour ahead of its standard UTC+2.[5]

Who in India writes to Alexandria

The trades the embassy lists on both sides of the corridor, and the messages that suit them.

Cotton yarn and textile exporters

Cotton yarn is among India's exports to Egypt, Indian textile and apparel firms appear on the embassy's investment list, and its home page features an India–Egypt textile buyer-seller meet in Alexandria.[1],[2],[3]

  • Proforma and order confirmation
  • Shipment notice quoting the ACID
  • Vessel arrival and delivery updates

Engineering goods exporters

Engineering goods are among the leading items on the embassy's list of India's exports to Egypt.[1],[2]

  • Order acknowledgement
  • Dispatch and document notices
  • Payment due reminders

Buffalo meat exporters

Buffalo meat is on the embassy's list of India's exports to Egypt, and importers want loading and arrival news quickly. Medicines are not traded on WhatsApp: Meta's policy bars drug sales.[1]

  • Order acknowledgement
  • Loading and sailing notices
  • Document requests before arrival

Indian importers of Egyptian goods

Citrus fruits come the other way, and an Indian buyer's desk needs inspection and loading news from its supplier.[1]

  • Inspection and loading confirmations
  • Payment sent notices
  • Document requests before sailing

Arabic for the team, English for the paperwork

Meta approves each language version separately. An Alexandria programme usually needs two of these three.

Variables such as the ACID and the bill of lading number stay in Latin characters inside an Arabic template, so test how they sit in a right-to-left line before you submit. Replies inside the 24-hour window can be in any language an agent writes; InfiQ's own support team works in English and Hindi.

What an exporter runs on InfiQ for Alexandria

The parts that carry a shipment from booking in India to arrival on the Mediterranean.

  1. Developer API and webhooks

Your export system fills the ACID, bill of lading and vessel into the approved notice and sends it the moment the status changes.

  2. Template manager and library

Draft the ar_EG and en versions side by side and track both through Meta's approval before the first container sails.

  3. Shared team inbox

Questions from the importer, the forwarder and the customs broker reach one number that sales and logistics answer together.

  4. Published per-market rates

Egypt's per-message rate is published in rupees, so a season's shipment notices can be costed before the first send.

Questions Alexandria businesses ask

  1. Q1

Our mill in India ships cotton yarn to a weaving company in Alexandria. What should the first WhatsApp shipment notice contain?

The ACID the importer obtained on Nafeza, the bill of lading number, the vessel and its expected arrival at Alexandria, and a contact for questions. Send it as an approved utility template, ₹0.3167 per delivered message to an Egyptian number, in Egyptian Arabic and English.

  2. Q2

The Alexandria importer's ACID reached us by email from Nafeza. Can we share it with their customs broker on WhatsApp?

Yes, if the broker has agreed to receive WhatsApp messages from you. If the broker writes first, your team can reply in free text for 24 hours; otherwise use an approved utility template that carries the ACID as a variable, so the wording stays fixed and the number is never mistyped.

  3. Q3

Our buyers at Alexandria's textile firms read Arabic, but their purchase orders come in English. Which template languages should we approve?

Approve each shipment template twice: Arabic (Egypt), code ar_EG, for the operations and accounts staff, and English, code en, for the purchase manager and the forwarder. Store each contact's choice when they opt in, so the right version goes to the right person.

  4. Q4

Egypt leaves summer time after 29 October 2026. When should a reminder leave Pune to reach an Alexandria office at 10:00 the next week?

At 13:30 IST. Until the end of 29 October Egypt is on UTC+3 and 10:00 in Alexandria is 12:30 in India; from 30 October it is on UTC+2, three and a half hours behind IST, until summer time returns on the last Friday of April 2027.

  5. Q5

We met buyers at the India–Egypt textile buyer-seller meet in Alexandria. Can we send them our new price list on WhatsApp?

Send what a buyer asked for, in a chat the buyer started. An unrequested price list is marketing, and Egyptian law sets its own licence and consent conditions for electronic marketing; the Egypt guide covers them. Collect each buyer's opt-in at the meet, with the source recorded.

  6. Q6

Our Mumbai firm imports citrus from a packer in Alexandria. Can we message their team about inspection and loading?

Yes. Messages to their +20 numbers are billed at Egypt's rate, ₹0.3167 for a utility template. When the packer's team writes to you first, your replies inside the 24-hour window are service messages at ₹0.3167; outside it, use an approved template such as a loading confirmation request.

  7. Q7

Our group runs a factory near Alexandria as well as the Indian parent. Which company should hold the WhatsApp account?

InfiQ serves India-based businesses: it invoices in rupees with GST and keeps customer data in India, so the Indian parent is the natural account holder and can message Egyptian numbers at Egypt's rate. If the account must belong to the company based in Alexandria, talk to sales about whether InfiQ fits.
