Ambedkar Nagar district was announced on 29 September 1995, separated from Ayodhya (Faizabad), with its headquarters at Akbarpur. It covers 2,350 sq km and had 23,97,888 people at the 2011 census.[2],[1]

Tanda tehsil was constituted on 7 December 1995 and took effect from 1 January 1996; Tanda is also one of the district's development blocks. The district's rivers include the Saryu, the Ghaghara and the Tamsa.[2]

The town on the Ghaghara's bank was settled in 1714, when Raja Syed Mohammad Hayat built it at the request of the emperor Farrukhsiyar; its looms moved from hand to power after electricity arrived in the early 1960s.[8]

The district names power looms and farming as its major economic activities and says it is noted for Tanda terracotta. It also has an NTPC thermal power station, a Jaypee cement grinding unit, the Akbarpur sugar mill near Mijhaura and many rice mills at Akbarpur.[3]

Hindi, Urdu and English templates

The receipt is the message
A bale leaves Tanda on a truck; the wholesaler believes it has left when he sees the transporter's receipt.
