Faizabad in eight lines

Faizabad lies on the southern bank of the Saryu. It grew around a hunting lodge that Saadat Khan, the first Nawab of Awadh, built about 1730 west of Ayodhya, and took its name under his successor Safdar Jang.[3]
Shuja-ud-Daula made Faizabad his residence after the battle of Buxar in 1764; after his death in 1775, Asaf-ud-Daula moved the capital to Lucknow. Gulab Bari is Shuja-ud-Daula's tomb, and Bahu Begum's maqbara stands at Jawaharbagh.[3]
Ayodhya and Faizabad were run as one municipality from 1865, split into two bodies in 1978, and joined again by a Uttar Pradesh government order in May 2017 as the Ayodhya Municipal Corporation, which has 60 wards.[4]
Faizabad was the headquarters of the district until November 2018, when the state cabinet approved renaming it Ayodhya district.[3]
