WhatsApp Business API for Shajapur's onion trade, transporters and lodges

In 1640 Shajapur's Koutwal built four gates and a central market around a halting place of Shahjahan's army. The town still trades: onion is its district's ODOP crop, and NH-3 runs through it.

Trade 1

Onion, the district's ODOP crop

Growers ask the day's rate, commission shops send lot slips, and buyers far away want the truck number.

Trade 2

Trucks on the Agra–Bombay road

NH-3 runs through the town, so transporters and their clients talk loading times, drivers and arrival.

For Shajapur's onion growers and commission shops, the transporters on the old Agra–Bombay road, its temple lodges and cabs, and its daal baati kitchens: how one onion lot's week runs on WhatsApp, which messages are replies and which need templates, and what each costs in rupees.

See it work

An onion lot's week on a Shajapur number

A grower asks a commission shop for the day's rate, a buyer in another state takes the lot, and a truck leaves on NH-3. Scrub through the week to see which messages are free-form replies and which have to be approved templates.

Most of the week is replies. The grower writes, the shop answers, and nothing needs Meta's approval. Templates come in only where the shop speaks first: the buyer's confirmation, the dispatch note, the payment note after a quiet day and the next season's offer.

Those four are written once, approved once per language, and reused for every lot. The 24-hour service window explains what a reply allows.

Market brief

Shajapur in nine lines

From the Shajapur district administration's pages, Invest India's ODOP list and IBEF's Madhya Pradesh profile.

  1. 01

The town grew at a halting place of Shahjahan's army, then called Khankarakhedi; in 1640 Meer Bigo, appointed Koutwal, built four gates facing the four directions and a central market with Shri Jagannath Rawal, and a wall followed.[2]

  2. 02

It was named Shahjahanpur after the emperor, and the name became Shajapur under the Scindias, who took the town in 1732 as Mughal power declined.[2]

  3. 03

Its old localities include Magriya, Mahupura, Dansi, Muradpura, Lalpura, Mugalpura and Meerkala; the Jama Masjid dates from Shahjahan's reign.[2]

  4. 04

The Chandralekha river, now the Chiller, once flowed north and was turned from the east to serve as the fort's moat; a palace in the fort was built up in Tarabai's time.[2]

  5. 05

Shajapur was declared a district in 1904. It covers 3,460.4 sq km on the Ratlam plateau of central Madhya Pradesh, with 326 village councils and six municipalities, and lists Hindi as its language.[2],[1]

  6. 06

It borders Ujjain and Agar Malwa to the west, Dewas and Sehore to the south and Rajgarh to the north; its assembly seats are Shajapur, Shujalpur and Kalapipal.[1]

  7. 07

The town lies on NH-3, the Agra–Bombay highway. Shajapur station is on the Western Railway, with Berchha and Maksi nearby, and the closest airports are Indore, about 110 km away, and Bhopal, around 160 km.[3]

  8. 08

The district's pages picture the Chiller dam, the Raj Rajeshwari temple and daal baati, and list the Parshvanath temple at Maksi among its religious places.[1],[4]

  9. 09

Invest India's ODOP list names onion for Shajapur; IBEF calls Madhya Pradesh a leading producer of wheat, soybean and pulses.[5],[6]

Questions Shajapur businesses ask

Growers bring onion, Shajapur's ODOP crop, to our commission shop and ask the rate on WhatsApp. Do our rate replies need templates?+
No. When a grower writes first, your rate, the weighing time and the lot slip are replies inside the 24-hour window, at ₹0.145 each, in Hindi or whatever he writes. A template is needed only when you write after the window has closed, such as a payment note two days later, which is a utility template at ₹0.19.
Our Shajapur transport firm runs trucks on NH-3, the Agra–Bombay road. Can the buyer get the truck number and driver's name before loading?+
Yes. A dispatch note for a load the buyer booked is a utility template at ₹0.19, with the truck number, the driver's name and the expected arrival as variables. If the buyer replies with a question, your answers for the next 24 hours are replies at ₹0.145.
Families visiting the Raj Rajeshwari temple ask our Shajapur lodge about rooms. Is our answer a marketing message?+
No. They asked, so the tariff, the room photos and the directions are replies at ₹0.145. A booking confirmation and a check-in reminder are utility templates at ₹0.19. A festival-season offer sent unasked is marketing at ₹0.94, and only for guests who agreed to receive offers.
Pilgrims bound for the Parshvanath temple at Maksi book our cab from Shajapur station. What does the pickup reminder cost?+
A reminder about a ride the pilgrim booked is a utility template at ₹0.19 per delivered message, with the pickup time, the vehicle number and the driver's name as variables. Write it in Hindi and in English, have both versions approved, and reuse them for every booking.
Our daal baati kitchen in Shajapur takes party orders on the WhatsApp Business app. Do we lose the app if we move to the API?+
No. With WhatsApp Coexistence you keep the Business app on the same number while the API sends order confirmations and reminders, within Meta's coexistence limits. Staff can keep answering from the phone, and InfiQ's shared inbox shows the same chats on a computer.
Our shop has customers in Shujalpur and Kalapipal as well as Shajapur town, and they write in Hindi. Do our templates need an English version too?+
Only if some customers prefer English. Hindi (hi) is a Meta template language, and each language version of a template is a separate template that needs its own approval, so a Hindi set covers most of the district. Add English (India) (en_IN) for suppliers and buyers who write in English.
