A border town whose buyers live in another state
North Garo Hills shares a long border with Assam, which is why its administration calls it the gateway to the Garo Hills. Goalpara lies to its north and Kamrup to its east, and the trains from Mendipathar run to Dudhnoi and Guwahati. For a Resubelpara trader, the buyer at the other end of a chat is as likely to be in Assam as in Meghalaya.
That changes less than it seems. Meta prices each message by the recipient's country calling code, so a wholesaler in Goalpara on a +91 number costs exactly what a shop in Resubelpara does. What does change is language: a buyer in Assam may prefer Hindi or English, while a grower from a nearby village writes in Garo.
Replies can follow whoever writes. Templates cannot: they come only in the languages Meta supports, so the season's dispatch, payment and departure notes are written once in Hindi and English and reused.
