A Raleigh student's journey, state by state
An Indian admissions consultancy follows a student from her NC State admission in Hyderabad to her first week in Raleigh. Walk the journey, then switch to the path with a visa delay, and watch the number change.
Until the plane lands, the student is an Indian number: templates are billed at the India rate, and the parents, also on Indian numbers, can be kept in the loop. The arrival state is where most programmes slip. Her 919 number is a new contact, so record a fresh opt-in for it and move her reminders there, rather than assuming the old consent travels with her.
After the switch, the consultancy's system keeps sending what matters, enrolment, housing and loan milestones, as utility templates through the developer API. Nothing promotional reaches her new number: Meta does not deliver marketing templates to US numbers.

Raleigh and the Triangle, in the sources' words

NC State says it is home to more than 6,000 international students and scholars from more than 120 countries.[1]
Research Triangle Park, founded in 1959, covers 7,000 acres at the centre of three Tier-1 research universities, with more than 385 companies and over 55,000 people working there every day.[2]
Wake County Economic Development says 47 people move to the county and 20 are born there every day, and names life sciences, advanced manufacturing, technology and cleantech as its key industries.[3]
Under the jurisdictions in force since 15 July 2025, North Carolina is served by the Embassy of India in Washington DC rather than a consulate.[4]
Meta says WhatsApp does not currently deliver marketing template messages to users with US phone numbers, meaning a +1 dialling code and a US area code.[5]
