The Charlotte region spans two states, and since July 2025 they answer to different Indian missions. A family in Charlotte or Matthews, in North Carolina, is served by the Embassy of India in Washington DC; a family a few miles south in Fort Mill or Rock Hill, in South Carolina, by the Consulate General in Atlanta.
For a bank or travel firm in India that sends passport or document reminders, that means storing the state with each contact, not just the city, and keeping two versions of the reminder. A template that names the wrong mission sends a customer to the wrong website and the wrong appointment queue.
The clock, at least, is the same on both sides. The whole region keeps Eastern Time, UTC−5, moving an hour forward from the second Sunday in March to the first Sunday in November, so 09:00 in Charlotte is 18:30 IST in summer and 19:30 IST in winter.
