WhatsApp Business API for reaching Montréal customers in French and English

A Montréal customer has the right to be served in French. Write the French template first, then the English one.

In Montréal a customer can insist on French, and since 2022 that right binds the businesses serving them. Plan every WhatsApp template in French and English, and let the customer's choice decide which one goes.

For India-based sellers, IT firms and community services with customers in Montréal: which template language each message type needs under Quebec's French rules, how consent works for offers, what a message to a 514 number costs, and how the Indian evening meets Montréal's morning.

See it work

Which template a Montréal customer gets

Pick a message type and the language the customer chose. Each cell shows what to send; the French column is the one Quebec's Charter protects.

The grid doubles your template work, and that is the point. Meta approves each language version of a template separately, so an order confirmation for Montréal means a fr_CA version and an en_CA version, both approved before the first order ships.

Store the language each customer picks on your form or in their first reply, and send by that field. A customer who wrote to you in English and got a French template has lost nothing; a customer who asked for French and got English has a complaint to make.

Montréal, on the record

What Quebec's language office, the region's investment agency, the High Commission of India and the time-zone database say about the city.

The Act respecting French, the official and common language of Québec, was sanctioned on 1 June 2022 and amended the Charter of the French Language, in force since 1977.[1]

Consumers have always had the right to be informed and served in French; the reform made that right binding on businesses, which must offer French service on terms equivalent to any other language. Consumers can complain to the Office québécois de la langue française.[1]

Since 1 June 2023, customers must be given a French version of a standard-form contract.[1]

Montréal International lists aerospace, artificial intelligence, clean technology, defence and security, and life sciences among the region's key sectors, and describes it as having the largest concentration of high-tech jobs in Canada.[2]

The High Commission of India in Ottawa lists a consular camp in Montréal (June 2026) and community events there, including India Day, Independence Day at the Hindu Mandir Montreal and Bharat Parv on 25 September 2025.[3]

Order and delivery updates are exactly the kind of customer information Quebec consumers can ask to receive in French.[1]

  • Order confirmation in fr_CA
  • Delivery and customs updates
  • Return pickup scheduling

IT and AI service firms

The region's agency puts artificial intelligence and aerospace among its key sectors; Indian delivery teams serve Montréal clients across a gap of nine and a half to ten and a half hours.[2]

  • Incident and change notices
  • Release windows
  • Call scheduling for the Indian evening

Community services from India

India Day, Bharat Parv and the consular camp show an Indian community the High Commission reaches in the city; travel desks, banks and property firms serve the same families.[3]

  • Fare holds and e-tickets
  • Deposit and instalment notices
  • Document checklists before a trip home

Aerospace and life-science suppliers

Both sectors are on Montréal International's list, and an Indian component or reagent supplier answers engineers and buyers in the city.[2]

  • Purchase-order acknowledgements
  • Dispatch and certificate updates
  • Delay alerts

The Indian evening is Montréal's morning

Montréal keeps Eastern time, like most of Quebec: UTC-5 through the winter and UTC-4 from the second Sunday in March to the first Sunday in November. India is UTC+5:30 all year, so the city is ten and a half hours behind in winter and nine and a half in summer. A Montréal office opening at nine is 19:30 or 18:30 in India.

That leaves one overlap, the Indian evening. Schedule utility updates for Montréal's morning, put someone who writes French on the evening shift, and let replies that arrive in the Indian night wait in the team inbox. InfiQ's own support team works India hours, in English and Hindi, so French copy comes from your side.

Consent for offers is a federal matter: CASL treats instant messaging accounts as electronic addresses. The Canada guide covers express and implied consent, PIPEDA and Quebec's Law 25.

On InfiQ

What a bilingual programme runs on

The parts of InfiQ that keep French and English versions in step.

  1. Template manager and library

Draft each Montréal template as a fr_CA and en_CA pair and track both through Meta's approval together.

  2. Broadcast campaigns

Segment contacts by the language they chose, so a French customer never receives the English send.

  3. Shared team inbox

Label conversations by language and transfer French threads to agents who write it.

  4. Consent records and opt-out enforcement

CASL asks for consent before an offer; each Montréal contact's opt-in source and time is kept, and STOP blocks later sends in either language.

Questions Montréal businesses ask

A customer on the island of Montréal complained that our order confirmation arrived only in English. What should we change?
Add a fr_CA version of every customer-facing template, store each customer's language choice, and send by it. Quebec's Charter gives consumers the right to be informed and served in French, and since the 2022 reform they can complain to the Office québécois de la langue française when they are not.
Our customers in Montréal switch between French and English halfway through a chat. Which language should the next template use?
The one they chose, if they told you; otherwise French. Inside the 24-hour window your agent can simply follow the customer, since free-form replies need no template. Outside it, the template goes in the language on file, so ask the question once and record the answer.
We have a stall at India Day in Montréal and want to collect WhatsApp opt-ins. What counts as consent?
For offers, CASL asks for consent and WhatsApp asks for an opt-in to messages from your business. Say plainly that people are signing up for WhatsApp messages from you, in French and English, and record the source and time. The Canada guide explains express and implied consent.
Does a French order update to a 514 number cost more than an English one?
No. Meta prices by the recipient's country code and the category, not the language: a utility update to a Montréal number costs ₹0.2989 in fr_CA or en_CA. You pay for the second language only in the time it takes to write and approve the extra template.
Our engineers in Bengaluru support an AI start-up in Montréal. When do our working days overlap?
Only in the Indian evening. A 09:00 start in Montréal is 19:30 IST from November to March and 18:30 IST from March to November, after the second-Sunday-in-March clock change. Send scheduled notices for Montréal's morning and leave replies that arrive overnight in the shared inbox.
We store Montréal customers' chat history with InfiQ in India. Does Quebec's Law 25 matter to us?
It can. Law 25 asks enterprises covered by it to assess a transfer of personal information outside Quebec before making it, and InfiQ keeps customer data in India. If your business, or a Quebec partner sharing data with you, is subject to the law, do that assessment first; the Canada guide summarises it.
We are a company in Quebec's largest city with a development centre in Pune. Which one should hold the InfiQ account?
InfiQ serves India-based businesses: it invoices in rupees with GST and keeps customer data in India, so the Indian company is the natural account holder and can message Montréal numbers at the North America rate. If the account must belong to the business based in Montréal, talk to sales about whether InfiQ fits.
