A business day in Jangipur
WhatsApp Business API for Jangipur: mango crates, Murshidabad silk and the Bhagirathi
Jangipur was a camp of Jahangir's army and then a silk town of the East India Company. Today the Bhagirathi splits it from Raghunathganj, NH 12 runs south to Kolkata, and in mango season the orders come in by message.

For Jangipur and Raghunathganj, the twin towns on the Bhagirathi that head Murshidabad's Jangipur subdivision: how mango and silk sellers, labs near the hospitals, coaching centres and travel desks by Jangipur Road station take orders and send updates on WhatsApp in Bengali, and what each message costs.

Two crates of mangoes, from Jangipur to a flat in Kolkata
In mango season a family in Kolkata writes to a seller in Jangipur. Step through the order to see which messages are replies and which one is a template.
Nearly every step is a reply, because the family keeps writing. The one template is the dispatch note, sent after the crates leave, when the family may not have written for a day. Telling last season's buyers that the new crop is in would be marketing, and goes only to families who agreed to hear it.

Jangipur and Murshidabad
From the Murshidabad district administration, Invest India's ODOP list and Meta; Wikipedia only for the town's history, transport and institutions.
Murshidabad has five subdivisions: Sadar, Jangipur, Lalbagh, Kandi and Domkal. The Jangipur subdivision takes in the Farakka, Raghunathganj I and II, Sagardighi, Samsherganj and Suti I and II blocks.[1],[2]
The district covers 5,324 sq km in 26 blocks, 1,886 villages and 8 municipalities, and had 7.103 million people at the 2011 census. It gives Hindi, Bengali and English as its languages, and was the capital of Bengal under Murshid Quli Khan.[1]
Silk weaving is the district's principal cottage industry and sericulture its principal agro-based rural industry; it is also known for brass and bell-metal ware.[3]
Invest India's One District One Product list names Murshidabad silk sarees and scarves, and mango and its processed products, for Murshidabad.[4]
Jangipur takes its name from a camp of the emperor Jahangir's army. In the early colonial period it was a silk-trading centre with East India Company commercial residencies, and later grew indigo.[7]
The town lies on the Bhagirathi with Raghunathganj, its twin, across the river; a barrage crosses the Bhagirathi here, and the Farakka Barrage stands at the head of the subdivision.[7]
Jangipur Road station, in Raghunathganj, is on the Azimganj–Farakka line, and NH 12 links the town with Baharampur and Kolkata. Jangipur College, a subdivisional hospital, a super-speciality government hospital and a medical college serve the area.[7]

| Silk sellersMurshidabad silk sarees and scarves are the district's other ODOP product, chosen from photos by buyers who rarely visit.[4],[3] |
|
| Labs and clinics near the hospitalsThe subdivisional hospital, the super-speciality hospital and the medical college bring patients and families from across the subdivision.[7] |

| Coaching centres and travel desksStudents at Jangipur College, and passengers using Jangipur Road station on the Azimganj–Farakka line, ask by message first.[7] |

The silk town that kept its buyers far away
Jangipur once traded silk through the Company's residencies; its sellers now answer buyers down NH 12 by message.
Jangipur was a silk-trading town of the East India Company long before NH 12 was built. A seller of silk sarees or mango crates today often answers buyers who are in Kolkata, Baharampur or further, and will never see the shop.
That distance is why the dispatch note matters. A buyer who cannot see the crates leave wants to be told, with the docket number, the same day. It is a utility template, the one message in the order that needs approving.
Bengali templates, with Hindi and English
The district gives Hindi, Bengali and English as its languages, and all three are Meta template languages.
Meta approves each language version of a template separately, so a dispatch note in Bengali and the same note in Hindi are two approvals at the same price. Inside the 24-hour window, replies can be in any language the customer writes in. InfiQ's own support works in English and Hindi.
| Language | Meta code | Use it for |
|---|---|---|
| Bengali | bn | Most buyers, patients' families and customers |
| Hindi | hi | Customers and traders who read Hindi |
| English (India) | en_IN | Invoices, silk buyers in other states and offices |

Questions Jangipur businesses ask
- Families in Kolkata order mango crates from our Jangipur orchard in season. Can each family get a note when its crates leave on NH 12?
- Yes. A dispatch note for the family's own order, with the crates and the courier's docket number, is a utility template at ₹0.19, approved once in Bengali. Their questions before and after are replies at ₹0.145 each.
- Our shop sells Murshidabad silk sarees from Jangipur to buyers in Kolkata. Can we send photos of new sarees to past buyers?
- Only to buyers who agreed to hear about new designs from your shop, as an approved marketing template at ₹0.94 with a way to stop. A buyer who writes to ask can be sent as many photos as they like in reply, within 24 hours.
- Our lab near the Jangipur Super-Speciality Government Hospital wants to tell patients when a report is ready to collect. Is that allowed?
- Yes, as a utility template at ₹0.19 about the patient's own test. Keep the test name, results and any diagnosis out of the template; a line saying the report is ready at the counter is enough. Medicines are different: Meta's policy does not allow pharmacies to sell or take orders for them on WhatsApp.
- Students at Jangipur College ask our coaching centre about batches. Can several teachers answer from one WhatsApp number?
- Yes. The shared team inbox gives 10 users on Lite and 25 on Growth on one number, with transfers and private notes, so a question about physics reaches the physics teacher. Class-time changes for enrolled students go as utility templates.
- Our shop in Raghunathganj, across the Bhagirathi from Jangipur, uses the WhatsApp Business app. Do our customers need a new number if we move to the API?
- No. With Coexistence, the same number keeps working in the WhatsApp Business app on your phone while the API runs alongside it, within Meta's limits. Customers keep writing to the number they already have saved.
- Passengers ask our travel desk about trains from Jangipur Road on the Azimganj–Farakka line. Can we send their ticket details on WhatsApp?
- Yes. Ticket and seat details for a booking the passenger made are a utility template at ₹0.19. Questions about other trains, asked by the passenger, are replies at ₹0.145 each inside the 24-hour window.
