Amethi district came into existence on 1 July 2010, from the Amethi, Gauriganj and Musafirkhana tehsils of Sultanpur and the Tiloi tehsil of Raebareli. It was first named Chhatrapati Shahuji Maharaj Nagar.[2]
Gauriganj is the district headquarters, connected by rail and road to Raebareli, Pratapgarh and Lucknow.[2],[3]
