Dhamtari grows paddy on water from the dams on the Mahanadi and sells rice to traders up the road in Raipur and beyond. A rate list to those traders is the message most mills want to send, and the one with the most rules attached.

Dhamtari in nine lines
From the Dhamtari district website, in Hindi, Invest India's ODOP list and IBEF's Chhattisgarh profile.
Dhamtari district was formed on 6 July 1998 from parts of Raipur district, the same day as Mahasamund.[1],[2]
It has 7 tehsils, 4 development blocks, 3 subdivisions, 370 gram panchayats, 653 villages and 7 urban bodies.[1]
Raipur and Durg lie to the north, Gariaband to the east, Balod to the west, Kanker and Kondagaon to the south, with Odisha beyond.[1]
The Mahanadi, Chhattisgarh's main river, rises in the Sihawa hills of the district, where the ashram of the sage Shringi Rishi stands on Mahendragiri.[2],[3]
Paddy is the main crop. The Ravishankar Sagar dam at Gangrel irrigates about 57,000 hectares and is Raipur's main source of drinking water.[2],[3]
The district says the Madmasilli (Murumsilli) dam on the Silyari, built in 1914, was Asia's first siphon dam.[2],[3]
Forests cover 213,123 hectares in the Dhamtari, Birguri and Nagri ranges, with sal and teak; Jabarra village is known for its medicinal plants.[2],[3]
NH 30 runs through the district, linking it to Raipur in the north and Jagdalpur in the south. Rice is Dhamtari's entry on Invest India's ODOP list.[2],[4]
IBEF lists rice first among Chhattisgarh's main export products and counts mining, iron and steel, cement and power among its key industries.[5]
