Lighting workshops
Workshops that design and install festival light displays for committees in the town and elsewhere.[3]
- Video replies to committee enquiries
- Booking and installation updates
- Next season's themes to committees that asked
Chandannagar was a French settlement from the late 17th century and has been part of West Bengal since 1954. Today two things bring people across the Hooghly to it: the lights its craftsmen make for Jagaddhatri Puja and festivals elsewhere, and the Strand along the river.
Trade 1
Festival lights
Chandannagar's light-makers build the displays its Jagaddhatri Puja is known for, and supply festivals across Bengal and beyond.
Trade 2
The Strand
A former French settlement whose riverside promenade, church and museum draw visitors up the Hooghly.
For Chandannagar's festival light-makers, the guides, stays and cafés that serve visitors to the Strand, and the town's shops: what to send a puja committee or a visitor at each step from the first enquiry to next year's booking, Bengali and Hindi templates, and the rupee cost of every message.
See it work
A light-maker's year runs on committees that book once and, if the display works, again. Climb the ladder to see what each step lets the workshop send.
The ladder fits the trade's calendar. Most of the work between enquiry and switch-on is utility messaging about a booking already made, which needs no further consent. The one message that needs consent is the one sent months later, when the next season's themes are ready.
The same ladder fits a heritage walk on the Strand: a visitor asks, books, walks and, if they wish, hears about the next walk.
Tier 4 · Asked for next year
Next season's designs
Why: After the switch-on, the secretary asks to see next year's designs first.
The committee agrees to hear about new themes; the workshop records when and how, and each message carries a way to stop.
Move 3 of 3: climbs to tier 4, Asked for next year (Next season's designs). After the switch-on, the secretary asks to see next year's designs first.
Market brief
From the Hooghly district administration and Invest India's ODOP list, with the town's encyclopedia entry for its history and landmarks.
Chandannagar heads the Chandannagar subdivision of Hooghly district, which also covers the Singur, Haripal and Tarakeswar blocks.[1]
Hooghly district lists 4 subdivisions, 18 blocks, 12 municipalities and one municipal corporation, the Chandernagore Municipal Corporation; its headquarters is Chinsurah.[1]
The French bought land here in 1673–74, built Fort d'Orléans in 1696–97 and governed the town until the early 1950s; it was integrated into West Bengal on 2 October 1954.[3]
The town lies on the west bank of the Hooghly, within the Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority area, on the Howrah–Bardhaman main line.[3]
The Strand is a tree-shaded riverside promenade; the Institut de Chandernagor, a museum since 1961, still teaches French, and the Sacred Heart Church was inaugurated in 1884.[3]
Jagaddhatri Puja is held across the town in November, about ten days after Diwali; its light-makers, many in the Bidyalanka area, supply festivals across Bengal and beyond.[3],[1]
Invest India's ODOP list names Dhaniakhali handloom sarees, costume jewellery and chikan embroidery as Hooghly district's products.[2]
Four kinds of business, from the light workshop to the riverside café.
Workshops that design and install festival light displays for committees in the town and elsewhere.[3]
Guides and stays that serve visitors to the Strand, the Institut de Chandernagor and the Sacred Heart Church.[3]
Shops near the station and the Strand serve residents, commuters and festival crowds.
Dhaniakhali sarees, costume jewellery and chikan work from across the district are sold through the town's shops and online.[2]

Question: A puja committee from another town saw our Jagaddhatri lights in Chandannagar and wants a quote. Can we send videos of past displays in reply?
Answer: Yes. Their message opens 24 hours in which your staff can send videos, photos, themes and a quote with no template. Each reply is charged at ₹0.145. If the committee writes again, the window starts over.
Question: Our workshop in Bidyalanka installs lights in other towns. Can we tell the committee when the truck leaves and when the switch-on test is done?
Answer: Yes. Updates about a booking already made are utility templates, approved once in Bengali or Hindi and sent at ₹0.19. They can go days after the committee last wrote, and they need no separate offer opt-in.
Question: Visitors from Kolkata book our heritage walk on the Strand. Can we send the meeting point and a reminder the evening before?
Answer: Yes. A booking confirmation and a reminder for a walk already booked are utility templates at ₹0.19. Keep offers for other walks out of the reminder, or Meta may treat it as marketing.
Question: Can we send next year's Jagaddhatri themes to every committee we have worked with from Chandannagar?
Answer: Only to committees that agreed to receive them, with a record of when and how. Next season's designs go as an approved marketing template at ₹0.94, with a way to opt out. Ask for the yes at the end of this season's job.
Question: Our shop near Chandannagar station serves commuters on the Howrah–Bardhaman line in Bengali and Hindi. Do we need two versions of each template?
Answer: Yes, one approved version per language: Bengali (bn) and Hindi (hi) are both on Meta's template list. Store each customer's language with their number and send the matching version. Free-form replies inside the window can be in either.
Question: A Durga Puja committee in Dhaka asks about lights from Chandannagar. What does a reply to a Bangladesh number cost?
Answer: Meta charges by the recipient's country code, so a reply to a +880 number is billed at Bangladesh's service rate, not India's. InfiQ publishes that rate in rupees on the pricing page and invoices in rupees with GST.
