WhatsApp Business API for Benipur's makhana traders, makers and shops

Benipur trades in Darbhanga's makhana, fish and mango; its next step on WhatsApp starts with the number buyers already know.

Benipur is one of Darbhanga district's four sub-divisions and one of its only two urban local bodies. Its traders deal in the district's makhana, fish and mango, and the number their buyers already know is where WhatsApp starts.

For Benipur's makhana, fish and mango traders, the terracotta and Madhubani painting makers of Darbhanga district, and the shops and clinics of the town's 29 wards: the steps from a trader's own phone to a shared WhatsApp number, which messages need a template, and what each costs.

See it work

From the owner's phone to a shared Benipur number

A makhana trader in Benipur runs the business from one phone today. Climb the ladder to see what each step unlocks, and why the order of the rungs matters.

The ladder is ordered by what Meta and the law require, not by what a trader wants first. Replies inside the 24-hour service window need none of it, which is why the bottom rung works until a trader needs to write first.

The climb matters the day the trader wants to write first: a dispatch note to a buyer who ordered, or a rate list to buyers who asked for one. The India guide covers consent under the DPDP Act.

Why: With opt-ins recorded, the rate list can go out and staff can share the replies.

Staff answer the number together; the weekly rate list goes only to buyers who opted in.

A sub-divisional town in the heart of Mithilanchal

The official record of Benipur is short. The Darbhanga district administration lists it as one of four sub-divisions, alongside Darbhanga Sadar, Biraul and Kusheshwar Asthan, and its municipal council as one of only two urban local bodies in the district. Most of what the district says about its economy is said of Darbhanga as a whole.

So this page writes for Benipur's businesses in terms of the district they trade in: makhana, fish and mango, which the district names as the trade of its town; the terracotta and Madhubani paintings on its ODOP list; and the shops and clinics a town of 29 wards keeps busy. Where a sentence is about the district rather than Benipur, it says so.

Benipur and Darbhanga district, sourced

From the Darbhanga district website, Invest India's ODOP list and IBEF's Bihar profile.

Benipur is one of Darbhanga district's four sub-divisions, with Darbhanga Sadar, Biraul and Kusheshwar Asthan, and there is a Benipur block.[2]

Benipur Municipal Council is one of the district's two urban local bodies, with 29 wards and a population of 75,317 at the 2011 Census.[1]

Darbhanga became a separate district in 1875, out of Sarkar Tirhut; Madhubani and Samastipur became districts of their own in 1972, and Biraul sub-division was created in 1992.[1]

The district administration calls Darbhanga the heart of Mithilanchal, and says agriculture is the primary occupation of its people.[1],[3]

Darbhanga town is noted for its trade in fish, mango and makhana, and mango and jackfruit grow near the district's villages.[3]

The ODOP list names makhana (foxnut), Madhubani paintings and terracotta as Darbhanga district's products.[4]

IBEF reports a first sea shipment of GI-tagged Mithila makhana to Australia, and lists food processing among Bihar's fastest-growing industries.[5]

Who in Benipur writes to whom

Four kinds of business, from the district's crops to the town's wards.

Makhana traders and processors

Makhana heads the district's ODOP list; traders buy lots from growers and sell to wholesalers and packers who want weights, grades and dispatch dates.[4],[3],[5]

  • Lot-weighment and payment notes
  • Dispatch notes with the lorry number
  • Rate lists to buyers who opted in

Fish and mango traders

The district's other two noted trades, both fresh, both sold to shops and wholesalers who order at short notice.[3]

  • Replies to the morning's orders
  • Delivery-time notes
  • Payment reminders

Terracotta and painting makers

Terracotta and Madhubani paintings are on Darbhanga's ODOP list, sold to shops and buyers who choose from photos.[4]

  • Photo replies inside the window
  • Order and courier notes
  • New work to buyers who asked

Shops and clinics in the town

A municipal council of 29 wards keeps shops and clinics busy with orders and appointments.[1]

  • Order-ready notices
  • Appointment reminders
  • Festival offers to customers who said yes

Hindi and Urdu templates, Maithili replies

Maithili is the language of Mithila but not one Meta approves templates in, so Benipur's templates go in Hindi, Urdu or English. Each language version is approved once.

Inside the 24-hour window, after a customer writes, staff can reply in Maithili or any other language with no template. InfiQ's own support team works in English and Hindi.

Questions Benipur businesses ask

A makhana trader in Benipur buys lots from growers across Darbhanga district. Can the weight and payment for each lot be confirmed on WhatsApp?
Yes, to growers who agreed to receive updates. A weighment and payment note is about that grower's own lot, so it is a utility template at ₹0.19, approved once in Hindi. If the grower writes back about the rate, your replies for the next 24 hours need no template.
Can our Benipur firm send the week's Mithila makhana rates to every wholesaler and packer we have sold to?
Only to buyers who asked for them. A rate list sent to many buyers to win orders promotes a sale, so Meta treats it as a marketing template at ₹0.94, and WhatsApp's policy requires each recipient's opt-in. Record each buyer's yes, and remove anyone who asks to stop.
Shops in Darbhanga town order fish from our Benipur stall on WhatsApp every morning. Do our answers need templates?
No. When a shop writes first, a 24-hour window opens and you can reply freely with what is in and the delivery time. Each reply is a service message at ₹0.145 on InfiQ. A template is needed only to write first, for example a delivery note to a shop that has not written that day.
Terracotta is on Darbhanga's ODOP list. Can a maker near Benipur send photos of new pieces to shops that bought last season?
Only to shops that agreed to receive new-work updates. Photos meant to sell are a marketing template at ₹0.94. A shop that writes first to ask what is new can be sent photos and prices as replies, with no template, for 24 hours.
Our clinic is in one of Benipur's 29 wards. Is the Lite plan enough for appointment and report-ready notices?
Usually, yes. Lite is ₹999 a month with the shared inbox for 10 users, plus each delivered message at the India rate; appointment and report-ready notices are utility templates at ₹0.19. Start with a 7-day Lite trial, no card needed; once Meta business verification is complete, a number is usually live in about two hours.
Most of our customers in Benipur, in the heart of Mithilanchal, speak Maithili and some read Urdu. Which of the two can our order templates use?
Urdu (ur) is on Meta's template language list; Maithili is not. Approve order templates in Hindi and Urdu, and answer customers in Maithili inside the 24-hour window after they write, when no template is needed.
