WhatsApp Business API for Barshi's grain traders, towel sellers and temple town

Barshi keeps time by the Ekadashi: on two of them, Bhagwant rides through the town on Garuda.

Barshi's Bhagwant temple has stood since 1245, and its Ekadashi processions still set the town's calendar. Around it, a black-soil taluka grows jowar and pulses that buyers order by phone.

For Barshi's jowar and pulses traders, the shops that sell Solapur's terry towels and sheets, the packers who send the district's pomegranates out, and the lodges and shops that fill up for the Bhagwant Ekadashis: how a firm climbs from phone calls to WhatsApp templates, step by step, and what each step costs.

Barshi in eight lines

From the Solapur district administration's pages and Invest India's ODOP list.

Barshi taluka has 138 villages on 1,483.1 sq km; spurs of the Balaghat range run south into its northern part.[3]

It lies in the district's eastern zone, whose soil is medium to deep black and of rich quality, and whose main crops are jowar, bajra and pulses.[3]

The Bhagwant temple, dedicated to Vishnu, was built in the Hemadpanthi style in 1245; the district calls it the only Vishnu temple in India with that name.[2]

Large crowds come for the Chaitri, Maghi, Aashadi and Kartiki Ekadashis, and on the Aashadi and Kartiki days Bhagwant is carried through the town seated on Garuda.[2]

Barshi was one of the sub-divisions of the district formed in 1838; Solapur became a full district of Maharashtra in 1960 and lists Marathi as its language.[1]

The district says Solapur is famous for its sheets, towels and pomegranates, and counts around 6,000 powerloom units making chadders, towels and napkins.[1],[4]

Invest India's One District One Product list names the Solapur terry towel for the district, with pomegranate second.[5]

Barshi station is on the Kurduwadi–Latur route of the Central Railway; Solapur is 72 km away with hourly buses, and the nearest airport is Pune.[2]

A Barshi pulses trader's climb, one rung at a time

A trading firm in Barshi sells jowar and pulses to buyers in Pune and Mumbai, and today most of its business happens on calls. Climb the ladder to see what each step on WhatsApp adds, and what makes a firm take it.

Most Barshi firms stop on the second or third rung for a season, and that is fine: replies and order notes cover most of what a trader sends. The top rung is the only one that needs a recorded opt-in, and it is the one that costs the most per message.

Tier 6 · New crop

Opted-in buyers

Why: Several buyers ask to be told when the new crop arrives, and the firm records their yes.

Buyers who asked to hear about new jowar and pulses lots get a note when the crop comes in, each with a way to stop.

An illustrative firm. Each rung is something the official API supports: replies within 24 hours of a buyer's message, utility templates for orders, a shared inbox, sending from billing software, and marketing only to buyers who opted in.

Move 5 of 5: climbs to tier 6, New crop (Opted-in buyers). Several buyers ask to be told when the new crop arrives, and the firm records their yes.

Questions Barshi businesses ask

Devotees come to Barshi for the Kartiki Ekadashi procession and ask our lodge about rooms. Are our replies charged as marketing?+
No. A devotee who writes to ask has opened the conversation, so for 24 hours your answers, the tariff and the room photos are replies at ₹0.145 each. A note you send unasked to past guests before the next Ekadashi is marketing, at ₹0.94, and only for guests who opted in.
Our Barshi firm sells jowar and pulses from the taluka's black-soil villages to buyers in Pune. Can the loading note go on WhatsApp?+
Yes. A loading note for a contract the buyer agreed is a utility template at ₹0.19, with variables for the lot, the truck number and the expected arrival. Send it to buyers who agreed to receive order updates on WhatsApp; their replies open a 24-hour window for free answers.
Shops order Solapur terry towels from our Barshi store by phone. Can we send the invoice PDF afterwards without a template?+
Only if the shop has written to you on WhatsApp in the last 24 hours. Otherwise, send the invoice as an approved utility template with the PDF in its header, at ₹0.19. If you keep accounts in Busy, InfiQ's native integration can send it straight from the books.
Buyers ask our pomegranate packing shed near Barshi for photos of each crate before the truck leaves. Is that allowed?+
Yes. The buyer asked, so the photos and a short video go back as ordinary replies at ₹0.145 each inside the 24-hour window. The dispatch note with the vehicle number can follow as a utility template if the buyer has gone quiet by the time the truck leaves.
Our shop near the Bhagwant temple wants to remind devotees about the chabina on the next full-moon day. Who can we send that to?+
Only devotees who agreed to hear from you about festivals and offers. A reminder like that is usually a marketing template at ₹0.94. Ask for consent at the counter or in the next chat a devotee starts, and InfiQ keeps a record of each opt-in.
Growers write to our Barshi office in Marathi, and buyers in Delhi in Hindi. Do we need two versions of each template?+
For the templates you send them, yes: Meta approves Marathi (mr) and Hindi (hi) versions separately, so keep both and send each contact the one they read. Replies inside the 24-hour window need no template in any language.
