The district site gives Baloda Bazar-Bhatapara 3,733.87 sq km, 5 development blocks, 738 villages and 8 urban bodies, with a population of 10,78,911, in Raipur division.[1]
The district was formed on 1 January 2012 out of Raipur district. Its name is said to come from a cattle and buffalo market where traders from Gujarat, Haryana, Maharashtra, Odisha and Berar bought and sold.[2]
The history page dates the move of the tehsil headquarters from Simga to Baloda Bazar to 1903 and the town's municipal status to 1973.[3]
Limestone is the main mineral, in Simga and Baloda Bazar tehsils, and the natural-resources page (last updated 2018) lists cement plants at Hirmi, Rawan and Sonadih.[4]
The same page names paddy as the main crop, counts 86 cooperative societies buying paddy at the support price and 4 mandis, and says the Bhatapara mandi is known for trading all year.[4]
Baloda Bazar and Bhatapara have rice, dal and poha mills, and rice from the district is exported. The ODOP list names rice-based products such as poha as the district's product.[4],[5]
The district's places to visit include the Barnawapara wildlife sanctuary, Girodpuri's Jaitkhamb, the Sonbarsa nature safari, the Kabir Panth ashram at Damakheda and the Siddheshwar temple at Palari.[1],[4]
