Mungeli received tehsil status in 1860; the district has three tehsils, Mungeli, Pathariya and Lormi, three development blocks and 711 villages.[1],[2]

Setganga, a sacred kund and temple on the bank of the Tesua, is tied by legend to a Phaninagvanshi king, and a large fair is held there every year.[2],[1]
The district lists the Achanakmar Tiger Reserve, 553.286 sq km in the Satpura range, among its tourist places.[3]
Madku Dweep is an island formed where the Shivnath splits into two channels; the Khudiya reservoir was made by joining three hills, with the Maniyari passing between them; Kharraghat, on the Agar, has an old Mahadev temple.[3]
