Ranebennur and Haveri, from the district and the record
From the Haveri district website, the Invest India ODOP list and IBEF's Karnataka profile, with the city's trades and location from the encyclopaedia.
The district site gives Haveri 4,823 sq km, 7 taluks and 705 villages, with a population of 15,97,668 in 2011, 77.75% of it rural, and calls it the district exactly in the centre of Karnataka and the gateway to the north.[2]
Its home page says the district is famous for cardamom garlands and the marketing of Byadgi red chillies, and pictures the blackbuck sanctuary at Ranebennur.[1]
The ODOP list names Byadgi chilli as Haveri's primary product and spice products as its secondary one.[3]
Ranebennur is the district's largest city, on NH 48 about 300 km from Bengaluru, with the Tungabhadra along the south of its taluk. It has a seed-multiplication industry with several seed companies, and trades cotton yarn, cottonseed, oilseeds, red chilli, betel nut and betel leaf.[5]
Cotton and jowar suit the area's semi-arid climate, the city is known for its wholesale cloth market, and Kannada and Urdu are its official languages. The blackbuck sanctuary is home to blackbuck and wolves.[5]
The district counts Kanakadasa, V. K. Gokak and Mailara Mahadevappa of Motebennur among the saints, writers and freedom fighters born there.[1]
IBEF lists textiles and apparel among Karnataka's key industries and puts the state's GSDP at Rs 32.81 trillion in FY26.[4]
