WhatsApp Business API for Munnar's homestays, tea and spice shops and jeep trips

Munnar sits about 1,600 m up, where three mountain streams meet among tea estates. Its visitors buy cardamom and tea at the counter and go home; what a shop may send them afterwards depends on what they agreed to.

For Munnar's homestays and resorts, the tea and spice shops that sell to its visitors, and the jeeps and taxis that run to Eravikulam, Mattupetty, Top Station and the Kochi airport: how a tourist at the counter becomes a buyer who reorders by parcel, which message each step allows, and what each costs.

See it work

One Munnar visitor, from the spice counter to a parcel home

A family from Bengaluru buys cardamom and tea at a Munnar shop on the last day of a trip. Climb the ladder to see what the shop may send them at each rung, and what moves them up.

Most Munnar shops meet their customers once. The ladder is how a one-day visit becomes a buyer who writes back, and each rung is the visitor's choice, not the shop's.

A QR code or a link on the bag lets the visitor write first, so everything after it is a reply. The 24-hour service window explains what a reply allows.

Marketing templates too

Why: When the parcel arrives, they say yes to hearing about the next harvest, and the shop records it.

A note when the new cardamom or a first-flush tea is in, to a family whose yes is recorded with its date and source; STOP ends it.

An illustrative shop and family, with no real volumes or prices. Each rung names the messages it allows on the official WhatsApp Business API.

Move 3 of 3: climbs to tier 4, Agreed to hear about new harvests (Marketing templates too). When the parcel arrives, they say yes to hearing about the next harvest, and the shop records it.

Market brief

Munnar in nine lines

From the Idukki district administration's pages, Kanan Devan Hills Plantations' site and Invest India's ODOP list.

  1. 01

Munnar rises about 1,600 m above sea level where three mountain streams meet, the Mudrapuzha, the Nallathanni and the Kundala; it was once a summer retreat of the British administration in South India.[2]

  2. 02

Tea estates surround the town, and a tea museum at the Nallathanni Estate keeps artefacts, photographs and machinery from the plantations' past.[2]

  3. 03

Henry Gribble Turner and A. W. Turner reached these hills through the Bodimettu pass in 1877, guided by Mudhuvan hill men.[3]

  4. 04

Kanan Devan Hills Plantations succeeded Tata Tea in most of its Munnar plantations on 1 April 2005; its shareholders are mainly its employees.[3]

  5. 05

Eravikulam National Park, about 97 sq km, is known for the endangered Nilgiri tahr; the district calls Anamudi, above it, the highest peak in South India.[2]

  6. 06

Neelakurinji, an endemic plant, blooms once every twelve years and turns the hills blue.[2]

  7. 07

Mattupetty, about 13 km away, has a dam, a boating lake and the Indo-Swiss dairy farm; Top Station, about 32 km, is the highest point on the Munnar–Kodaikanal road; Pallivasal had Kerala's first hydro-electric project.[2]

  8. 08

Cochin International Airport and the Aluva railhead are each about 108 km away; Kochi is about 130 km by NH 49, Madurai about 153 km.[2]

  9. 09

Idukki was created on 26 January 1972 and grows tea, coffee, rubber, cardamom and pepper; Invest India's ODOP list names spices for the district.[1],[4]

Questions Munnar businesses ask

Guests ask our Munnar homestay how to reach Eravikulam National Park to see the Nilgiri tahr. Are our answers templates?+
No. A guest who writes first opens a 24-hour window, so directions, timings and the jeep fare are replies at ₹0.145 each, in any language. A booking confirmation you send later, after the chat has gone quiet, is a utility template at ₹0.19.
Tourists buy cardamom at our Munnar spice shop and leave their number on the bill. Can we message them after they go home?+
Not on the strength of a bill. Put a QR code or link on the bag so they write first; then prices and photos are replies at ₹0.145. A harvest offer later is a marketing template at ₹0.94, only for those who said yes.
Neelakurinji blooms in Munnar's hills once every twelve years. Can our resort tell past guests when it flowers next?+
Only guests who agreed to hear your offers, and the yes must still stand when you send. A bloom-season offer is a marketing template at ₹0.94. InfiQ keeps each guest's opt-in with its date and source, so you can see who agreed and when.
Our jeep service runs from Munnar to Top Station on the Kodaikanal road. Can we confirm each pickup on WhatsApp?+
Yes. A confirmation for a trip the guest booked is a utility template at ₹0.19, with the pickup point, the time and the jeep number as variables. Questions the guest sends about the weather or the view are replies at ₹0.145.
Visitors from Madurai write to our Munnar resort in Tamil. Can our templates be in Tamil as well as Malayalam?+
Yes. Tamil (ta) and Malayalam (ml) are both Meta template languages. Submit each template once per language under the same name, and Meta approves each version separately; send each guest the one they read.
Our taxi stand drives guests from Cochin airport up to Munnar. What does the driver-details message cost?+
A message with the driver's name, the car number and the pickup time for a ride the guest booked is a utility template at ₹0.19 per delivered message. A guest on a foreign number is charged at that country's published rate instead of the India rate.
