Mahabubabad district was formed on 11 October 2016 from the erstwhile Warangal district, and borders Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam, Suryapet, Jangaon, Warangal and Mulugu.[1]
It had 7,74,549 residents at the 2011 Census, with a literacy rate of 57.13%, in 287 revenue villages.[1]
It has 18 mandals in two revenue divisions, Mahabubabad and Thorrur, and four municipalities: Mahabubabad, Maripeda, Dornakal and Thorrur.[1],[2]
Sixty per cent of the population works in agriculture and allied activities; the major crops are paddy, cotton, maize, pulses and chilli.[3]
