WhatsApp Business API for Indian exporters selling into Lagos
Lagos State holds three of Nigeria's major ports, Lekki among them. Goods from India land there, and the dealer waiting for them wants each step on WhatsApp, four and a half hours behind your clock.

For Indian exporters, IT firms and service businesses with dealers, distributors or clients in Lagos: which WhatsApp updates follow a consignment from India to a Lagos warehouse, when to send on West Africa Time, and what each message to a +234 number costs in rupees.

One consignment, India to a Lagos dealer
An Indian two-wheeler or spare-parts maker ships a container to its distributor in Lagos. Follow it from the factory gate to the payment reminder, one message at a time.
The same six steps fit an FMCG exporter or a machinery supplier. Your ERP knows the status first; the dealer in Lagos wants it on the phone he already uses for business, not in an email thread that crosses four and a half hours of time difference.
On InfiQ the developer API sends the matching approved template the moment your system changes state, and the dealer's replies land in the shared team inbox, where the export desk and the accounts desk can both pick them up.

Why Lagos is the gate
What official and port sources say about the city an Indian consignment meets first.
The Nigerian Ports Authority names Lagos Port Complex, Lekki Deep Sea Port and Tin Can Island Port Complex, all in Lagos State, among the country's major ports.[3]
Lekki Deep Sea Port, in the Lagos Free Zone at Ibeju-Lekki, has been fully operational since 1 April 2023 and describes itself as Nigeria's largest sea port.[4]
The Lagos Free Zone calls itself the first privately owned free zone in Nigeria with a deep seaport, integrated with Lekki port, and lists FMCG, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, engineering and logistics among its sectors.[5]
The Consulate of India in Lagos publishes a list of prominent Indian and Nigerian companies in Nigeria that includes Tata Africa Services, Bajaj Auto, Tech Mahindra and Godrej Nigeria.[2]
The US Commerce Department's market guide notes fibre-optic networks growing in Lagos and a Lagos Lekki-Epe International Airport, a US$900 million public-private partnership, under development.[6]

Questions Lagos businesses ask
- Our motorcycles land at Lekki Deep Sea Port for a Lagos distributor. Which of our updates count as utility messages?
- Everything about the distributor's own order: confirmation, bill of lading and ETA, release from the port, arrival at the warehouse and the payment reminder. Each is an approved utility template at ₹0.5898 per delivered message. A message announcing a new model or a dealer scheme is marketing, at ₹4.54.
- Lagos dealers phone our export desk in Pune about clearance at Tin Can Island. Can those questions come to one WhatsApp number instead?
- Yes. Print one number on your invoices and dealer circulars, and the questions arrive in the shared team inbox, where an agent can transfer a thread to logistics or accounts. An answer sent within 24 hours of the dealer's message is a service reply at ₹0.5898.
- What time should a payment reminder leave India to reach a Lagos trader as the shop opens?
- Lagos keeps West Africa Time all year, four and a half hours behind India, so 09:00 in Lagos is 13:30 IST in every season. Schedule reminders for the Indian early afternoon; anything sent at 09:00 IST lands at 04:30 in Lagos.
- Can our templates to Lagos customers be written in Yoruba?
- Not as templates: Yoruba is not on Meta's list of template languages, so templates go in English. Once a customer writes to you, your agents can answer in Yoruba, Pidgin or any other language for the next 24 hours, because free-form replies are not limited to the template list.
- Does Nigeria's data law reach an Indian company that sends order updates to Lagos buyers?
- The Nigeria guide explains why it likely does: the NDPC's 2025 directive applies the Act to controllers outside Nigeria that target people in it. Keep each buyer's opt-in with its source and time; InfiQ records both and enforces STOP.
- We are a trading company registered in the Lagos Free Zone. Can we take an InfiQ account?
- InfiQ serves India-based businesses: it bills in rupees with GST and processes customer data in India. If your Indian parent ships to you, it can hold the account and message Lagos numbers at the Nigeria rate. If your business is based in Lagos, talk to sales about whether InfiQ fits.
