Koderma's own tourism page says Jhumri Telaiya was made famous by its mica reserves and its radio lovers. Its mica traders now answer buyers who are far away, in writing, on WhatsApp.

Koderma became a sub-division of Hazaribagh district in 1973 and a full district on 10 April 1994; the district names Jhumri Telaiya as its main city, run by a nagar parishad.[2],[1]
The district counts 1,655.61 sq km and 7,16,259 people, lies about 165 km from Ranchi, and lists Hindi and Khortha as its languages.[1]
It calls itself the Mica city and says it was famous worldwide for ruby mica, held a monopoly in producing it for years and exported it to many countries; Invest India's ODOP list names mica for Koderma.[1],[2],[5]
The district's tourism page says Jhumri Telaiya was once made famous by its mica reserves and its radio lovers, and lists Telaiya Dam, Dhwajadhari Hill and the Makamaro hills among its places.[3]
Koderma station is a junction with direct trains to most major cities, 37 a week from Gaya; Gaya airport is the nearest, and Gaya is 94 km by NH 31 and SH 70.[4]
The Barakar, Barsoi and Sakri are the district's main rivers.[1]
