WhatsApp Business API for Jhalawar's orange traders, Kota stone units and guides

Jhalawar began as a cantonment that Jhala Zalim Singh, Dewan of Kota State, laid out beside Jhalrapatan. Its orchards and its stone are sold to buyers who are a day's drive away, and most of that selling starts with a message.

Trade 1

Oranges

Orchards across the district, and a season of buyers asking for the day's rate by message.

Trade 2

Kota stone

The district's ODOP product, cut into slabs for builders who order by the truckload.

For Jhalawar's orange growers and fruit traders, the Kota stone units behind the district's ODOP entry, and the guides, hotels and cabs that serve Gagron Fort, Jhalrapatan and the Chandrabhaga fair: which kind of WhatsApp message each send is, when it needs a template, and what it costs in rupees.

See it work

Which message is it? A Jhalawar orange trader decides

A trader has crates of oranges ready and a list of buyers in Kota. Answer three questions about any message to see whether it is a free reply, a utility template or a marketing template, or should not be sent at all.

The same three questions sort a Kota stone unit's messages, a guide's and a hotel's. Most of a busy season lands on the first branch, because buyers and visitors usually write first; the template branches are the few messages a business sends unprompted.

All possible outcomes (4)
  • A free reply

Rates, crate counts and photos of the fruit in any words, for 24 hours from the buyer's last message, at ₹0.145 each.

Path: “Yes, they asked about crates”

  • A utility template

The truck number, the crates loaded and the bill for the order, as an approved template at ₹0.19.

Path: “No, not since last week” → “Yes: dispatch or payment”

  • A marketing template

The new lot and its rate, as an approved marketing template at ₹0.94. A STOP reply ends offers to that buyer.

Path: “No, not since last week” → “No: a new lot to offer” → “Yes, it is on record”

  • Do not send it

Without a recorded yes to offers, wait for the buyer to write, or ask for the yes the next time they place an order.

Path: “No, not since last week” → “No: a new lot to offer” → “No, or not sure”

An illustrative trader and buyers. The 24-hour window, the template rule and the three template categories are Meta's; the advice to wait follows from them.

Question 1: Has the buyer written to you in the last 24 hours? 2 options.

Jhalawar in eight lines

From Rajasthan Tourism's Jhalawar guide and Invest India's ODOP list.

Jhalawar, once called Brijnagar, is named after its Jhala rulers. Jhala Zalim Singh, Dewan of Kota State, set it up as a cantonment called Chhaoni Umedpura near the existing Jhalrapatan fort, in what was then dense forest.[1]

The Garh Palace in the centre of the town was built by Maharaj Rana Madan Singh and his successors between 1838 and 1854; Bhawani Natyashala followed in 1921 under Maharaja Bhawani Singh.[1]

Gagron Fort, surrounded on three sides by the Ahu and Kali Sindh rivers, is one of the six hill forts of Rajasthan on the UNESCO World Heritage list; the mausoleum of the Sufi saint Mitheshah beside it holds a fair during Moharram.[1]

At Jhalrapatan, about six kilometres away, the 10th-century Sun Temple stands 97 ft high and the Chandrabhaga temples line the river of that name.[1]

The Chandrabhaga fair is held in Kartik (October–November), with three days of deepdan, a shobha yatra and cultural evenings, and a cattle fair where livestock is bought for resale.[1]

Orange-laden orchards spread across the district, and Rajasthan Tourism credits it with a major share of the country's citrus.[1]

The town lies on NH-52; Kota is 88 km away, Indore airport 240 km and Jaipur airport 345 km, and a daily passenger train runs to Kota.[1]

Invest India's ODOP list names Kota stone products for Jhalawar district.[2]

Kota stone cutting and polishing units

Kota stone products are the district's ODOP entry, sold to builders and dealers by the truckload.[2]

  • Slab photos and sizes in reply
  • Order and dispatch notes
  • Invoices and payment reminders

Guides and cabs for Gagron and Jhalrapatan

The UNESCO-listed fort, the Sun Temple and the Chandrabhaga temples are all within a short drive of the town.[1]

  • Route and timing replies
  • Booking confirmation
  • Pickup reminder from the bus stand

Hotels and stalls for the Chandrabhaga fair

The Kartik fair at Jhalrapatan brings three days of events and a cattle fair.[1]

  • Room and stall answers
  • Booking confirmations
  • Fair-week offers to guests who opted in

Orchards here, buyers a day's drive away

A Jhalawar orange or a slab of Kota stone is usually bought by someone who never visits the town. The buyer in Kota, 88 km up NH-52, or further away, decides on a photo and a rate, and that conversation is almost always one the buyer starts. Inside the 24 hours that follow, the trader can send as many photos and answers as the deal needs.

What changes on WhatsApp's official API is the message after the deal: the truck is loaded at night, and the buyer has not written since the afternoon before. That note is a utility template, written once with the truck number and the crate count as variables, approved by Meta and reused all season.

Hindi templates, replies in any language

IBEF lists Hindi, Marwari, Jaipuri, Mewari, Malvi and English among Rajasthan's languages. Of those, Hindi and English are Meta template languages.

Each language is its own template under the same name. A grower who writes in Hadoti, Malvi or any other language gets a reply in it, because replies need no template. InfiQ's own support works in English and Hindi.

Questions Jhālāwār businesses ask

Fruit buyers in Kota ask our Jhalawar orchard for the day's orange rate. Is our answer charged as marketing?+
No. When a buyer writes first, your rate, crate count and photos are replies at ₹0.145 each for the next 24 hours, with no template and in any words. Only a rate you send to a buyer who has not written, and who agreed to hear offers, is a marketing template.
Our Kota stone unit near Jhalawar loads trucks at night after the builder last wrote in the afternoon. How do we send the truck number?+
Use a utility template: the order is the builder's, so the dispatch note with the truck number, the slab count and the invoice is utility at ₹0.19. It needs Meta's approval once, then you fill in the variables for each truck.
Visitors ask our guide service about Gagron Fort and the Sun Temple at Jhalrapatan. Can we confirm their booking on WhatsApp?+
Yes. Answers to a visitor's questions are replies at ₹0.145. Once they book, the confirmation with the pickup time and the route to Gagron is a utility template at ₹0.19; the guide's name can go in as a variable.
Our hotel fills up for the Chandrabhaga fair in Kartik. Can we tell last year's guests when bookings open?+
Only the guests who agreed to hear offers. A bookings-open message is a marketing template at ₹0.94, sent in Hindi or English to guests whose yes is on record. Guests who never agreed can still write to you, and your answers are replies.
Growers bring oranges to our Jhalawar trading firm and write to us in Hadoti. Can our payment templates be in Hadoti?+
No. Hadoti, like Malvi and Marwari, is not on Meta's template list, so the payment note is a template in Hindi (hi) or English (en_IN). Your staff can still reply in Hadoti whenever a grower writes first, since replies are not templates.
We bill orange crates and Kota stone slabs from Jhalawar in Busy. Can payment reminders go out by themselves?+
Yes. InfiQ's native Busy integration sends invoices and automatic payment reminders on WhatsApp, with no integration fee. Each reminder to a buyer's Indian number is a utility message at ₹0.19.
