Bundi was ruled by the Hada Chauhans, and many historians call it the old capital of the Hadoti kingdom; Kota's independence in 1624 marked the beginning of Bundi's decline.[1]
Taragarh fort was built in 1354, and the Garh Palace below it, among the largest palaces in India, gathers Chhatra Mahal, Phool Mahal and Badal Mahal, built by different rulers over about three centuries.[1]
The Chitrashala in the Garh Palace is a gallery of miniature murals; Rajasthan Tourism calls 18th-century Bundi a beehive for miniatures and speaks of a Kota and Bundi style.[1]
Raniji ki Baori was built in 1699 by Rani Nathavati, among stepwells that include Dabhai Kund and the twin Nagar Sagar Kund; Kipling is said to have written part of Kim at Sukh Mahal.[1]
The Bundi Festival is held three days after Kartik Purnima, in October–November, and Kajli Teej in Bhadra, when kataar, paintings, bangles and rural handicrafts are sold at the fair.[1]
