The British made Gohana a tehsil in 1826; it became a rail junction in 2012. Its best-known name is a jalebi, famous since the British era, and a sweet shop's busiest chats are orders for weddings and festivals.

Gohana is one of Sonipat district's four sub-divisions, with Ganaur, Sonepat and Kharkhoda, and one of its eight blocks.[1]
The district calls Sonepat its largest tehsil, followed by Gohana, and lists Gohana among its three municipal committees, with Ganaur and Kharkhoda.[1]
The ridges in Gohana tehsil are the northernmost extension of the Aravallis.[1]
Sonipat was carved out of Rohtak district and became a full district on 22 December 1972; a British-era tehsil building, pinned on the district's map in Gohana, is on its list of tourist places.[1],[2]
The British declared Gohana a tehsil in 1826, when it belonged to Rohtak district.[4]
Rohtak lies about 33 km away, Sonipat about 40 km and Panipat about 42 km; NH 71-A runs to Rohtak and Panipat, NH 352-A to Sonipat and Jind.[4]
The station became a junction in 2012, and the Jind–Sonipat line through Gohana has run since 26 June 2016; trains also reach Rohtak, Bhiwani and Panipat.[4]
