Gangarampur in seven lines

Gangarampur is a municipality of Dakshin Dinajpur on the bank of the Punarbhaba; in ancient times people called it Damdama or Devkot.[1]
Buniadpur is the headquarters of the Gangarampur subdivision; Dakshin Dinajpur was formed when Paschim Dinajpur was divided in 1992.[1]
The district lists the Bangarh excavation site at Gangarampur among its historic places, as the ancient city that was an administrative centre, and pictures the Dargah of Shah Ata and Kaldighi on its home page.[3],[2]
Bangarh's remains run from before the Mauryas to the Pala period; the Dargah of Shah Ata, probably of the fourteenth century, holds the tomb of Mollah Atar-Uddin.[5]
Kaldighi and Dhaldighi, two old tanks on the east side of the town, draw migratory birds and visitors.[5]
The town is on NH-512 and has a railway station near Gangarampur College; its economy rests on farming, small business, handloom and handloom-based crafts, and Bengali is its main language.[5]
