WhatsApp Business API for Datia's pilgrim stays, gur makers and grain traders
Datia sits 34 km from Jhansi and 69 km from Gwalior, and many who come are pilgrims who booked a room by WhatsApp. Its gur and grain leave the same way. Each message a business sends falls into one of four answers.
A Datia business
- We are coming from Gwalior on Saturday for darshan at Pitambara Peeth. Do you have a room for four?
- Yes, a family room ten minutes' walk from the temple gate. Shall I hold it?
- Please. We come by train and reach Datia station at 7.
- Held. Your confirmation comes here, and our auto will wait at the station.
For Datia's guesthouses, hotels and drivers who serve pilgrims to Pitambara Peeth, Sonagiri, Ratangarh Mata and Unao, its jaggery makers and traders, grain traders and handloom sellers: how to tell a reply from a utility or marketing template, which need consent, and what each message costs in rupees.
See it work
Which Datia message is it? Four questions decide
Answer the questions for any message a guesthouse or gur trader in Datia wants to send, and land on what it is: a reply, a utility template, a marketing template, or one that has to wait.
Most of a Datia guesthouse's messages end at the first answer: pilgrims write to ask for a room, and every reply for the next 24 hours is free-form. Gur traders meet the second and third questions more often, because dispatch slips go out a day or two after the order.
The fourth question is the one a phone book of past guests cannot answer. The 24-hour service window explains the first.

A free-form reply
Answer in any words, with photos, a map or a PDF, at the service rate. No template is needed while the window is open.
Path: “Yes”
A utility template
The room confirmation or dispatch slip goes as an approved utility template, at the India utility rate.
Path: “No” → “Yes” → “No”
Split it into two messages
Send the confirmation as utility, and the offer separately as marketing to people who opted in. Mixed together, Meta treats the whole message as marketing.

A marketing template
Send the approved offer at the marketing rate, with a clear way to stop.
Path: “No” → “No” → “Yes”
Do not send it yet
Ask for consent first, at the counter, on the booking form or in a chat the person starts, and record it.

Datia, from the district's own pages
From the Datia district website, the Invest India ODOP list and IBEF's Madhya Pradesh profile, with the palace and the town's trades from the encyclopaedia.
Datia district, in the Gwalior division, covers 2,959 sq km and has 735 villages and a population of 7,86,754; its language is Hindi.[1]
The town is 34 km from Jhansi, 69 km from Gwalior and 52 km from Orchha, and its nearest airport is at Gwalior.[1]
The state was founded in 1549; Rao Bhagwan Rao received Datia from his father, Raja Bir Singh Deo of Orchha, in 1626, and Datia joined Vindhya Pradesh in 1950 and Madhya Pradesh in 1956.[2]
The district lists Peetambra Peeth near the city as a famous Shakti Peeth, Sonagiri as a Jain pilgrimage, Ratangarh Mata 55 km away and the Unao Balaji sun temple 15 km away.[4],[1]
Its produce page names wheat as a major crop and black gram as another, and the ODOP list names jaggery for Datia.[3],[5]
Bir Singh Deo built the Datia palace in 1614, seven storeys above ground; the town lies on the Gwalior–Jhansi main line and trades in grain and cotton goods, with handloom weaving among its industries.[7]
IBEF lists agro-based industries and tourism among Madhya Pradesh's key industries.[6]
Industries
Who in Datia sends what
Four kinds of business, two that serve the people who come and two that send goods out.
- 01
- 02
Gur makers and traders
Jaggery is Datia's ODOP product, sold to shops and wholesalers who order by the bag.[5]
On WhatsApp: Dispatch slips with invoice · Rate replies to shops that ask · Payment reminders
- 03
- 04
Handloom and cloth sellers
Handloom weaving is one of the town's industries, and cotton goods are among what it trades.[7]
On WhatsApp: Photo replies with designs · Order confirmations · Festival offers to buyers who opted in
Hindi for nearly everyone, English for the rest
Meta approves each template once per language. Pilgrims, farmers and shops in and around Datia read Hindi, so most templates need only a Hindi version, with English kept for visitors and offices.
Inside the 24-hour window after a pilgrim writes, staff reply in Bundeli, Hindi or any language without a template. InfiQ's own support team works in English and Hindi.
| Language | Meta code | Use it for |
|---|---|---|
| Hindi | hi | Pilgrims, farmers, shops and wholesalers across Bundelkhand |

| Gujarati | gu | Pilgrim groups from Gujarat who prefer it |

Questions Datia businesses ask
- Pilgrims from Gwalior and Jhansi book rooms near Pitambara Peeth with our Datia guesthouse. Which message confirms their stay?
- If the family is still chatting when you confirm, the confirmation is a reply at ₹0.145. If you send it later, after the 24-hour window has closed, it is a utility template at ₹0.19, with the dates, the room and a map link, and nothing about other packages.
- Our gur unit near Datia sends jaggery to shops in Jhansi and Gwalior. Can each shop get a dispatch slip on WhatsApp?
- Yes, for shops that asked for order updates. A slip with the shop's own bags, weight, invoice and truck number is a utility template at ₹0.19, with the invoice attached as a document. Keep next season's rates out of it, or Meta treats it as marketing.
- Jain pilgrim groups going to Sonagiri hire cars from our Datia hotel. Can we send the driver's details before they arrive?
- Yes. A pickup notice for a car the group booked, with the driver's name, the number plate and where to meet, is a utility template at ₹0.19. A group from Gujarat can get an approved Gujarati (gu) version of the same template.
- Farmers bring wheat and black gram to our Datia firm and ask for the day's rate on WhatsApp. Do we need a template to answer?
- No, when the farmer writes first: the rate is a reply inside the 24-hour window, at ₹0.145. A weight and payment slip sent days later, for grain already sold to you, is a utility template at ₹0.19, as long as it carries no offer.
- Our guesthouse wants to offer last year's guests a Navratri package for Ratangarh Mata. Can we message them all?
- Only guests who agreed to receive offers. A package offer is a marketing template at ₹0.94, and a past stay is not that agreement. Ask at checkout or on the booking form, record each yes with its date and source, and note that the DPDP Act's consent duties apply from 13 May 2027.
- Visitors to the Bir Singh palace ask our Datia handloom shop for photos of saris after they leave. Is that a template?
- No. When a visitor writes to ask, the photos and prices you send in the next 24 hours are replies at ₹0.145 each. A message you send first a week later about a new design is marketing at ₹0.94, for visitors who opted in only.
