Chaumu in seven lines

The palace from the Chomu Palace hotel's own site, Invest India's ODOP list and IBEF's Rajasthan profile; the town's founding and walls are general history from Wikipedia.

Chomu is a town and municipality in Jaipur district, one of the district's sub-districts, 33 km from Jaipur.[1]

Raaval Thakur Karan Singh established the town on Akshaya Tritiya in 1595, to a design proposed by Pandit Beniprasad Bhaatara; its name is read as chau, four, and mouh, a way.[1]

Thakur Manohardas and Lakkhi Banjara laid the foundation of a baavli near the Surajpol Gate at the eastern entrance, finished in 1640; Thakur Mohan Singh began the city walls and a canal, finished in 1719.[1]

A festival on 26 April each year honours the founders and the town.[1]

The Chomu Palace hotel dates its fort to 1550 and Rao Gopalji, fourth son of Raja Prithviraj Singhji I of Jaipur, describes a five-metre outer wall, says the fort became a palace in the late 18th century, and hosts weddings, events and film shoots.[2]

Invest India's ODOP list names gems and jewellery for Jaipur district.[3]

A walled town 33 km from the city

Chaumu's walls, gates and palace were built when its own Thakurs ruled it; today it is close enough to Jaipur that a family in the city can plan a wedding here and send its guests by bus.
