Ashoknagar Kalyangarh in seven lines
From the North 24 Parganas district administration and Invest India's ODOP list, with Wikipedia only for the town's history, markets, transport and oilfield.
The town stands on the site of the RAF's Baigachi airfield and was developed under Chief Minister Bidhan Chandra Roy as a township for refugees after Partition.[3]
First called Habra Urban Colony, its north-east part became Kalyangarh and its south-west part Ashokenagar; the municipality was set up in 1968 and has 23 wards.[3]
Its main markets are the Golbazar Market Complex, the Kachua Agricultural Market Complex and the Building More Super Market Complex, with Kalyangarh Bazar also important locally.[3]
ONGC discovered the Ashokenagar oilfield in 2018, described as the first oilfield found in West Bengal and eastern India.[3]
Ashoknagar Road station is on the Sealdah–Bangaon line, about 41 km from Sealdah and 18 km from Barasat; the town lies on NH 112, Jessore Road.[3]
North 24 Parganas, headquartered at Barasat, has five subdivisions, 27 municipalities and 22 blocks, and borders Bangladesh to the east.[1]
